One of my buddies who was Force Recon showed me the ear slap, palm to nose, and some of the nasty pressure points like behind the ear and near the groin.
A bit of practice with just those few alone would be pretty effective.

I was thinking along the same lines. Seems like a year is a long time to be working on a story as simple as this. Could have been deliberately held "in reserve" until an opportune moment to get at the Kennedys, and this would be a good time for the Clintons following Ted's endorsement of Obama.
