FAMILIES OF the victims of the September 11 terror attacks on New York have been devastated to learn that body parts of their loved ones have been found in the past two weeks by workers building the replacement for the World Trade Center.
Meanwhile, just a few miles away, distraught relatives are left to mourn at the worlds largest rubbish dump the final resting place for the remains of their sons and daughters. This is the reality of New York more than six years after the attacks on the Twin Towers. Its a situation described by one still-grieving mother as shameful and shocking.
At Fresh Kills, soil erosion is causing bones and other distressing evidence to be pushed to the surface. Wind and rain whip the dump, exposing shoes, watches, credit cards and jewellery.
For years, Diane has fought for a decent burial for those consigned to the landfill site at Fresh Kills. At first New York denied there were any substantial remains there. Now they dont even bother to pretend, they just deny the families right to retrieve them. I am beginning to realise theres a difference between law and justice, reflects Diane.
In two weeks time, after fighting tooth and nail to get them to search an inch of that site, the families may finally be getting somewhere. On February 22, WTC Families For Proper Burial will finally be granted their day in court.
As part of their submission to the court, WTC Families For Proper Burial has taken testimony from those who worked at the landfill site. The Sunday Post has obtained copies of the sworn affidavits of two workers. Their evidence is shocking.'

He was on the 87 floor when the planes hit the tower he was in.
They have never recovered any of his remains.
Last I heard none of BCM’s remains were recovered either.
One of my colleagues lost a twin daughter in the WTC. The other twin was working in the second tower and escaped. I retired and never did hear if they ever found any of her remains.
It’s going to happen. It’s not intentional that they did not find this sooner when it was buried. I wish folks would understand this instead of lashing out at others still angry over their loss.
+++++++++++++++
This kind of thing is left over from any battle in any war.
Why should we be spared the pain?
I believe that the debris should have been taken to sea, and whatever remains and bodies may have been contained therein committed to the deep. Better being taken to a landfill.
They are some of the first to fall in the war against Islamic fascism. Fresh Kills should be designated a sacred burial place and left at that. You wouldn’t dig up Arlington!
A few months after 9/11 there was a TV show that covered a tour for reporters of the Fresh Kills site where workers were carefully going over the material removed from Ground Zero. The guy leading the tour sternly lectured the reporters about what they might expect to see on the tour.
When he actually said "We're doing God's work here!", I knew there had to be something funny going on and that it was quite possible that many of the workers watching the conveyor belts were looking out for number 1.
Let the body go. The spirit survives.
Amen!
They’re still finding bodies at Gettysburg, so I suppose this should come as no big surprise?
This is very sad, but these people have to realize there was a time in this country, not too long ago, after a person was buried, animals or nature would unearth the body and creatures of the forest- coyotes, wolves, beavers, raccoons and aardvarks would devour the remains. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be eaten by some crummy beaver.
This makes me ache.
For the families, and for the dignity of the victims that we call “heroes”..
I wouldn’t call it “whining” by the victim’s families.. these too, are victims of these murderers. I don’t know how I’d feel in their shoes.
I too, just wish they’d change the name of that place except it’s been called that since the 1600’s.
I understand this somewhat. My son was hit by a car and killed last year. It wasn't until a week or so later when we retrieved his personal effects that we found his glasses were not among them. I imagine if someone had the glasses, as damaged as they were likely to be, they decided we would not want them.
There is a desperate desire to gather every last thing that you can, because you know no more things will follow. I'd cherish his glasses, like I do his broken cell phone, to the very end of my days.
But people did the best they could. Decisions they made were designed to spare us pain, I'm sure. Some things you just have to decide to accept.
The ones to blame are the foul jihadis who kill innocent people thinking that it will get them to their version of heaven.
>>Let the body go. The spirit survives.
Actually, your post made me feel better, you are so right, thank you..
Yeah. I was thinking that too. It just seems an excessively unfortunate name.
There are a lot of places with the name "Kills" in that area of the country, as it means stream or river.
Most moving article.
I'm not arguing with you, I simply want to comment that this is much easier said than done. I guess we worry that memories will fade, and belongings can help keep that from happening.
Honestly, I have saved scraps of paper that my son wrote on. Most of them are cryptic notes he wrote to himself that I will never figure out. One is a scribbled computer password. Meaningless really. But I can't bear to get rid of them.
very well said.
or the reverse.
Beavers are vegetarians, I'm pretty sure, if it makes you feel any better.
A slightly ironic turn of phrase.
Rudy actually used some of the remains to fill pot holes in the streets of New York. That was one reason that the police and fire personnel in New York had no respect for Rudy as a leader.
It is time for these people to let go.
They would do more to honor the memory of their lost ones if they spent their energy fighting the growing presence and influence of radical Islam in this country.
People who support and promote the ideology and the kind of terrorists responsible for the slaughter of their loved ones are sitting in the White House having dinner with Presdident Bush, they are receiving grants of taxpayer money to build muslim schools, they are being granted entry visas in greater numbers than before 9/11.
Political correctness is giving radical Islamists the victories over Americans they cannot win on the battlefield.
Thousands of tons of concrete and steel crushed the victims. Bodies were burned, mangled and crushed.
Let the body go. The spirit survives.”

I hear you.The loved ones should be able to get every scrap if they want it.(((Hugs)))fatima
Eskimos used to take their elderly, put them on an ice floe and let the polar bears get them. They felt that grandma or grandpa would then be food for their children when they killed the bear! Whew.
Now, that’s the way I want to go- with dignity. Working out the logistics might be a tad bit difficult, though. Know any Eskimos?
I can't imagine how painful it was for someone to lose a loved one like that. Having said that, when do you just say enough? We gave it superhuman effort to collect remains. In any other country they would have just burned everything and bulldozed over it. It's extremely disturbing to see blood and brain tissue on the highway after a fatal car accident. But we don't tear up the asphalt and squeeze out every last drop of blood just to let the families have "closure".
Honestly, it sounds like a barely disguised hit piece on America to me. There are few Americans whose consciences are 'largely undisturbed' by anything having to do with 9/11.
Retrieve what? After an incredible destruction of two skyscrapers we can only do so much to retrieve and sort out every piece of ash.
It means “Clear creeks”, as in pure water.
I appreciate the grief of those who never recovered the remains of their lost family members. But they truly ought to direct their anger at the Islamicist maniacs who killed them, rather than at those who are trying to recover the site of the atrocity on behalf of Western civilization.
“kills” is Dutch for river or waterway.
Thank you for the most sane post on this thread.
Get in line. The Normandy Beach Families for a Proper Burial are still waiting. Then there are the Omaha Beach folks and a ton of unnamed battlefield families who who wished their loved ones had proper burials. Pearl Harbor families had some concerns also.
