The McCain Mutiny
IBD ^ | February 11, 2008

Posted on 02/11/2008 5:48:13 PM PST by Kaslin

Republicans: George Bush insists John McCain is a true conservative. James Dobson says he's not. Meanwhile, Newsweek predicts "there will be blood" in the GOP. We predict a Republican president. There has to be.

McCain wasn't our first choice, but in the field that remains, he's the best choice. It would be disastrous for America if those conservative purists who'd make the perfect the enemy of the good let America go down a path from which it might not recover.

President Bush, speaking on "Fox News Sunday," responded "absolutely" to host Chris Wallace's question of whether John McCain was a "true conservative." McCain is "very strong on national defense," is "tough fiscally," "believes the tax cuts ought to be permanent" and is "pro-life," Bush noted.

For Obama and Hillary, none of the above apply.

Bush did say, "I think that if John is the nominee, he has got some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative." Indeed he does, as evidenced by Mike Huckabee's win in the Nebraska caucuses over the weekend.

McCain has done well in primaries where independents could vote for him. In caucuses dominated by party activists, he's done poorly. The caucuses of Maine, Minnesota, Alaska, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada and Wyoming were all won by Romney. One might dub McCain the "rebel without a caucus."

Ann Coulter may vote for Hillary Clinton, but we will not. The time for Coulters and the true believers to have rallied behind Mitt Romney was before Super Tuesday. It is by waiting for the next Reagan that they've risked sticking us with the next Clinton.

I loved Reagan, but someone needs to get a wake up call. He compromised as all Presidents must. We will lose if we don’t unite.

Thanks for the post.

IBD gets it. Now if conservatives would just stop, take a deep breath and think things through, to the net result of their actions.

So what are you planning to do? Sit the election out in November, or just not vote for president?

I have no problem voting for McCain. The alternative(s)must be defeated in order for the US to win the war on terror. There are vast differences between McCain and Hillary/Obama...do NOT be fooled.

I have already reconciled with myself that I will not vote MCCain.

It is resolved in my mind and I feel no need to flame those who do.

Simple enough. I am not voting for McCain or any other Democrat.

Let me get this straight. I haven’t had a vote yet. The Republican idiots have already chosen McCain, who is a well known negative quantity, and I’m the villain for not going along?

You’re welcome. It is high time to put President Reagan behind us. There will never be one like him, to try to make every candidate another Reagan is just wishful thinking

Here are the facts:

The Country Club Republican establishment has decided to anoint a RINO as the candidate. Our choices are between a RINO who holds conservatives in disdain, and a Democrat who will, in addition to opening the floodgates of cultural suicide by opening the floodgates at the borders like the RINO, will fuel the fires of Islamic terror by granting a victory to the jihadists in Iraq while dooming the Iraqi people to generations of misery and slaughter.

I sure would like to know at what point in these past ten years that McCain became better then Hillary. I keep hearing this slop conservative purists , and I may just have to vote for Obama to prove otherwise.

McCain pushers seem to think they can fear conservatives into voting for him, because they have NO evidence he will govern differently than Hillary or Obama.

I will vote for actual conservatives for Congress, as it will be Congress (representatives of we the people) that keeps any of these nominees in check.

I like and respect IBD, but I’ve had enough lecturing from McCain backers. McCain likes to flip the bird at conservatives; I’m more than happy to return the favor.

I will likely vote (unenthusiastically) for McCain. But that is not the point. Every presidential election cycle since 1980, I was out canvasing door to door, manning phone banks and writing checks because I was fired up. Not this time. McCain will need to count on committed "mavericks" to do the heavy lifting.

Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh have the right idea, and the country's best interest at heart.

I'm voting against McCain.
