John McCain funded by Soros since 2001

Candidate's Reform Institute also accepted funds from Teresa Kerry

As Sen. John McCain assumes the GOP front-runner mantle, his long-standing, but little-noticed association with left-wing donors such as George Soros and Teresa Heinz Kerry is receiving new attention among his Republican critics.

In 2001, McCain founded the Alexandria, Va.-based Reform Institute as a vehicle to receive funding from George Soros' Open Society Institute and Teresa Heinz Kerry's Tides Foundation and several other prominent non-profit organizations.

McCain used the institute to promote his political agenda and provide compensation to key campaign operatives between elections.

In 2006, the Arizona senator was forced to sever his formal ties with the Reform Institute after a controversial $200,000 contribution from Cablevision came to light. McCain solicited the donation for the Reform Institute using his membership on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission, he supported Cablevision's push to introduce the more profitable al la carte pricing, rather than packages of TV programming.

Well, lookie here! Robert Kelly on the receiving end of this little scandal.

Why am I not surprised? I'd wager to bet that most of these people are on the receiving end.....

Washington “insiders” are not motivated by allegiance to America but to a darker and more sinister agenda.

Yep. And each week, that is becoming even clearer.

Gaming the system. Everything about the ‘Reform Institute’ stinks.

That's true; and, according to history, so does everything and everyone with whom Soros is involved with.

"Robert Kelly, a homeland security expert at the Reform Institute. "

Robert W. Kelly is a Founder and Managing Partner of CenTauri. Prior to CenTauri, Mr. Kelly served as Vice President and General Counsel for Gray Hawk Systems Inc. and its successor ManTech-Gray Hawk.

Following up on the above post about the Reform Institute's Robert Kelly and Gray Hawk's connections with the tainted MZM (Duke Cunningham bribes), now I find that the new merged company, ManTech, for which Kelly acts as General Counsel, is directly connected to the the recently indicted Rick Renzi. From Wikipedia:

Father's company

[Rick] Renzi has been criticized for consistently introducing and voting in favor of bills benefiting his father's defense company, ManTech International Corp., a Fairfax, Virginia-based defense contractor.[37] Until his death in February of 2008, Renzi’s father, Retired Major General Eugene Renzi, was an executive vice president of the firm. ManTech had $467 million in contracts at the Army's Fort Huachuca with options for an additional $1.1 billion between 2004 through 2008. In addition, the company, which has an office in Sierra Vista, Arizona, was the largest contributor to Renzi’s 2002 congressional campaign and the second largest in his 2004 campaign.

Hmmm, wonder what RUMMY’s bottom up review did to some of these defense contractors. RUMMY was the most hated man in WDC congressionally speaking prior to 9/11. This redeveloped into a blood red rage until they ran him out of town after the liberals Foleyized US in election 06 took back control of the place.

A couple weeks ago, I was reading some old articles from the time period of transition from Reagan to GHWB. I think the feuds between some of McCain’s buddies and Rummy go all the way back to that era.

John McCain Gets Soros Cash

Moonbat.com has revealed a fascinating web of relationships underlying John McCain’s activities.

Senator John McCain’s Reform Institute has suffered some bad press recently due to its involvement in an influence—peddling scandal with Cablevision. As usual, however, mainstream media have failed to go to the root of the matter.

Founded on June 26, 2001, McCain’s Reform Institute for Campaign and Election Issues has long served as a nerve center for the so—called “campaign finance reform”movement — a movement which has done nothing to clean up campaign finance, but has done a great deal to empower federal judges and government bureaucrats to regulate political speech, in defiance of the Bill of Rights.

Now here’s the kicker. The list of donors published on the Reform Institute’s Web site reads like a veritable Who’s Who of radical, leftwing foundations, including the Tides Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Proteus Fund and George Soros’ Open Society Institute. (hat tip, Winfield Myers)

Not surprisingly, in view of the above associations, Arianna Huffington serves on the Reform Institute’s Advisory Board. Huffington has long acted as a front for George Soros’ “campaign finance reform” efforts. In 2000, she organized the so—called Shadow Conventions which provided John McCain with a bully pulpit to stump for his now—infamous McCain—Feingold Act. George Soros shouldered about one third of the cost of the Shadow Conventions

McCain Pressed Cable Company’s Case As His Group Collected Its Donations

WASHINGTON - Senator McCain pressed a cable company’s case for pricing changes with regulators at the same time a tax-exempt group that he co-founded solicited $200,000 in contributions from the company.

Help from Mr. McCain, an Arizona Republican who argues for ridding politics of big money, included giving the CEO of Cablevision Systems Corp. the opportunity to testify before his Senate committee, writing a letter of support to the Federal Communication Commission, and asking other cable companies to support so-called a la carte pricing.

Cablevision is the nation’s eighth largest cable provider, serving about 3 million customers in the New York area.

The pricing plan is opposed by most of the cable industry. It would let customers pick the channels they want rather than buy fixed-price packages. Supporters, like Mr. McCain and Cablevision, say it would lower prices for consumers, but recent congressional and private studies concluded it could make cable television more expensive.

Mr. McCain’s assistance in 2003 and 2004 was sandwiched around two donations of $100,000 each from Cablevision to The Reform Institute, the tax-exempt group that touts Mr. McCain’s views and has showcased him at events since his unsuccessful 2000 presidential campaign.

The group also pays $110,000 a year to Mr. McCain’s chief political adviser, Rick Davis, who ran the senator’s 2000 presidential campaign. Cablevision’s money accounted for 15% of the institute’s fund-raising in 2003, according to its most recent tax filing.

McCain is the most horrible candidate. We all see through him, and know his McCain agenda. I really wish he would go away. I won’t vote for a creep like him.

Founded in 1995, the Proteus Fund is set up not as a traditional foundation, but as a public charity. ... Margaret Gage, who founded the Peace Development Fund in 1981, is the Proteus Fund's President and Executive Director.

The Proteus Fund's Board of Directors is composed of members who are affiliated with numerous leftist causes and organizations. For example, Tom Asher founded the Media Access Project and sits on the Board of the Center for Responsive Politics. Donna Edwards of the Arca Foundation founded the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Mike Lux of Progressive Strategies LLC, a political consulting firm, served as Senior Vice President for Political Action at People for the American Way. Labor and political organizer Cecile Richards is the senior advisor to Nancy Pelosi and sits on the Directors' Boards of Progressive Majority, the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL), and the national Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Byron Rushing, a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, is a South Africa rights activist and a Board member of the CarEth Foundation and Grassroots International. Frank Sanchez of the Needmor Fund co-founded the Chicano Youth Association in 1969 and institutionalized bilingual education in American schools. Selena Singleton of the TransAfrica Forum is an attorney who represents minorities in matters pertaining to civil rights, environmental justice, and housing segregation; she also serves with the International Women's Democracy Center. Janet Shenk of the AFL-CIO is a longtime human rights activist and sits on the Board of the Arca Foundation. Margery Tabankin of Tabankin Associates is the director of the Streisand Foundation and Steven Spielberg's Righteous Persons Foundation. Robert Zevin of Zevin Associates was a founder or Board member of such leftist groups as Resist, Affirmative Investments, and the Tax Equity Alliance of Massachusetts. Dini Merz is a Program Director of the Proteus Fund's Peace and Security program and of the CarEth Foundation, which is an arm of the Proteus Fund.

Interesting groups they put on their homepage. Here is a snip about one of them:

http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/funderProfile.asp?fndid=5265

The Colombe Foundation seeks to create a more peaceful world through changes in American policy. These include the elimination of weapons of mass destruction, and a reduction in military spending accompanied by increased funding for social welfare programs and conflict-resolution initiatives.
