Palestinians burn Joseph's Tomb (again)

JERUSALEM – Palestinians yesterday tried to burn down Joseph's Tomb – Judaism's third holiest site – according to Palestinian security officials speaking to WND.

It marks the second time the Palestinians attempted to burn down the tomb, located near Nablus, the biblical city of Shechem.

Joseph's Tomb is the believed burial place of the biblical patriarch Joseph, the son of Jacob who was sold by his brothers into slavery and later became viceroy of Egypt.

Palestinian security officials in Nablus said yesterday they were called to the tomb to find 16 burning tires inside the sacred structure.

A Palestinian police official who inspected the site told WND today there was some fire damage to the tomb. He said the Palestinian Authority, fearing embarrassment, immediately formed a joint committee from the PA's Force 17, Preventative Security Services and Palestinian intelligence, to find out who was behind the fire.

He said patrols were stepped up around the site.

A spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces said the IDF was not aware of the fire or any unusual activity near the tomb but that it would immediately inquire with the PA.

The move comes after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced last week he would ask Israel's Defense Ministry to work with the PA to reconstruct and restore the tomb, parts of which were destroyed by Palestinians, including known PA security officers, in 2000.

"Yes, I’m familiar with the Biblical version of the Joseph story...I’m just not sure what the Muslim story is, exactly, or whether they recognize that the tomb actually is Joseph’s tomb. "

Me either. Anybody? Aren't the bones/remains at the Tomb of the Patriarchs? Don't the muzzies just want a mosque there?

Someone doesn’t get it, but then what else is new. In the scheme of things, Joseph and his policies saved the Egyptians from starvation, and as a side issue at the tme, his family as well who wandered over from Jerusalem out of hunger, and became the Hebrew people in the land of Egypt, and who grew to the size later to be rescued from Egyptian slavery through the Exodus.

Joseph’s body was taken back to the promised land for burial when Moses and the Children of Israel departed Egypt. So what part of Joseph’s history would cause the Palestinian slaves of the surrounding territories in todays world, to not identify fully with the slave status of the Children of Israel under the Pharaoh’s of the earliar time? To my feeble mind it is a parallel that should not be lost on them.

What could the answer be?

When vandals and iconoclasts get started, they may not even understand their own reasons for doing what they do.

This could certainly be a reason.

Shechem -- the city where Joseph was sold into slavery, which he later inherited and where he was buried -- is the place where redemption will begin with acts of violence and destruction.

In the cases of Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, and Jacob, there are numerous differences between the Biblical account and the early Muslim accounts, differences which simply cannot be reconciled.

Either the Bible is false or the Koran is false. Or the law of non-contradiction is false, which I suppose wouldn’t bother Muslims all that much, since they do not believe that their Allah is a rational God.

That could be the case with the Muslim story of Joseph, too. I confess I haven’t studied that one yet.

Could this possibly be the same Palestine that Bush and Rice supported in Annapolis in December? I thought so.

Best of luck, Israel. The United States is next.

Those differences will at some point in the future I’m sure be reconciled, meanwhile...

It seems that one side thinks they have been trod upon, while the other side has nothing but gratitude for the state they find themselves. Biblically both side were promised great blessing, one side may not see it that way, the other side would be ungrateful if they thought otherwise.

Earthquake Damages Temple Mount and Shechem

by Ezra HaLevi

(IsraelNN.com) An earthquake shook Israel at 12:37 PM Friday. The only damage reported in Israel was on the Temple Mount and near Shechem (Nablus).

The earthquake measured 5.3 on the Richter scale; its epicenter was located in northeastern Lebanon. Earlier last week an earthquake measuring 4.1 was felt in northern Israel, also originating from Lebanon, near its northern city of Tyre.

A large hole opened up on the Temple Mount during Friday's earthquake (click here for pictures), which was soon covered by officials from the Wakf Islamic Authority that administers the mosques built atop Judaism’s holiest site.

The only other reported damage in the Holy Land was incurred between Palestinian Authority-controlled Shechem (Nablus) and Jenin, where an old home collapsed, blocking the main road to the village of Khufin. The village is not far from the site of the Biblical Joseph’s Tomb, which was set ablaze by Muslim vandals last week.

At least five people were injured and two homes were destroyed in southern Lebanon as a result of Friday’s quake.

Wakf Officials Blame Israel

Wakf officials tried to blame Israel for the 6-foot by 5-foot hole, which is about three feet deep, claiming it was caused by Israel, which it accuses of tunneling beneath the Temple Mount. They demanded an end to all Israeli excavations in the area.

Though several excavation projects are taking place around the Western Wall Plaza, none of them entail tunneling past the wall itself and beneath the mount. The Wakf’s official position is that there was never a Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount and has gone to great efforts to erase archaeological evidence of Judaism’s historical ties to the site.

Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz issued a statement rejecting the Muslim claims. "These are mendacious reports without a grain of truth," he said, adding that work in the Temple Mount compound would be contrary to Jewish law. “Such claims are a desecration and cause hatred and incitement for no reason whatsoever,” Rabbi Rabinowitz said. He stressed that work on the Rambam (Mughrabi) Gate ramp to the Temple Mount is vital for the safety of those who visit the Western Wall and called on the authorities to finish the work speedily.
