The Next Great Awakening
National Review ^ | 02/15/2007 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 02/15/2008 5:32:34 AM PST by NotchJohnson

There’s no better path to success than getting people to buy a free commodity. Like the genius who figured out how to get people to pay for water: Bottle it (Aquafina was revealed to be nothing more than reprocessed tap water) and charge more than they pay for gasoline. Or consider how Google found a way to sell dictionary nouns — boat, shoe, clock — by charging advertisers zillions to be listed whenever the word is searched.

And now, in the most amazing trick of all, a silver-tongued freshman senator has found a way to sell hope. To get it, you need only give him your vote. Barack Obama is getting millions. . . .

Based on the Lyrics Don't Worry, Be Happy.

Here's a little speech I wrote
About the au-da-city of hope
Don't worry, be changin'
In every race we head into
When you go an' worry we lose a few
Don't worry, be changin'......

Ain't got no plan to feed yo' head
I got a scheme to float instead
Don't worry, be changin'
Hillary has super del-e-gates
We may just have to lit-i-gate
Don't worry, be changin'
Look at me I am changin'
Don't worry, be changin'
Here I give you my word
When you worry call me for hope
I help you change and maybe smoke some dope
Don't worry, be changin'
Ain't got no cash, ain't got no job
Ain't got not honky that you can rob
But don't worry be be changin'
Cause when you worry
My numbers go flat
And that won't bring more voters back
So don't worry, be changin' (to socialism now).....

There is this little speech I wrote
I hope you remember when you go vote
Like good little sheeple
Don't worry, be changin'
Listen to what I say
In this race expect some trouble
But when you worry
Hil's numbers double
Don't worry, be changin'......
Don't worry don't do it, be changin'
Put a smile on your face
Hillary and Juan are gonna gonna lose this race
Don't worry, it will soon be over
An whatever it was, won't be back
Don't worry, be changin'

B. Hussein Obama is the Pope of Hope. He is promoting non-religious Americans the same old secular humanism that the education system has been indoctrinating our children with the past 50 years. We have graduated from believing in a provident God.

The philosophy can be summed up in those well-loved secular hymns of praise to Man: “Climb Every Mountain,” “The Impossible Dream” and “You’ve Gotta Have Heart.”

The invincibility of Man was a very popular belief in the ‘30s, when everything seemed possible. Then Hitler and the Nazis put a serious crimp in this image of Man. Now it is in the ascendancy again, and we can only guess what will follow.

“We are the hope of the future,” sayeth Obama. We can “remake this world as it should be.” Believe in me and I shall redeem not just you but your country — nay, we can become “a hymn that will heal this nation, repair this world, and make this time different than all the rest.”

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.---Matthew 24:24 (King James Version)

Sure, but “hope” for what? I’ve yet to hear what exactly he stands for and what he’s going to do to get the nation there. I’m not holding out hope he let’s us in on the secret any time soon. At this point, I’m only hoping there will still be some semblance of America after he gets through with it.

Exactly...where does he stand on the economy...or patriotism? I do know that he refuses to wear a flag pin. And he comes from a muslim background. Seems like he doesn't want to talk about that.

I decided to find out more about this guy and went to his website. Here is a sample of his plans:

I proposed sending each working family a $500 tax cut and each senior a $250 supplement to their Social Security check. And if the economy gets worse, we should double those amounts.

For those Americans who are facing the brunt of the housing crisis, I’ve proposed a fund that would provide direct relief to victims of mortgage fraud. We’d also help those who are facing closure refinance their mortgages so they can stay in their homes. And I’d provide struggling homeowners relief by offering a tax credit to low- and middle-income Americans that would cover ten percent of their mortgage interest payment every year.

To make sure that folks aren’t tricked into purchasing loans they can’t afford, I’ve proposed tough new penalties for those who commit mortgage fraud, and a Home Score system that would allow consumers to compare various mortgage products so that they can find out whether or not they’ll be able to afford the payments ahead of time.

I’ll change our tax code so that it’s simple, fair, and advances opportunity, not the agenda of some lobbyist. I am the only candidate in this race who’s proposed a genuine middle-class tax cut that will provide relief to 95% of working Americans. This is a tax cut –paid for in part by closing corporate loopholes and shutting down tax havens – that will offset the payroll tax that working Americans are already paying, and it’ll be worth up to $1000 for a working family. We’ll also eliminate income taxes for any retiree making less than $50,000 per year, because our seniors are struggling enough with rising costs, and should be able to retire in dignity and respect. Since the Earned Income Tax Credit lifts nearly 5 million Americans out of poverty each year, I’ll double the number of workers who receive it and triple the benefit for minimum wage workers. And I won’t wait another ten years to raise the minimum wage – I’ll guarantee that it keeps pace with inflation every single year so that it’s not just a minimum wage, but a living wage. Because that’s the change that working Americans need.

Every American would be able to get the same kind of health care that members of Congress get for themselves, and we’d ban insurance companies from denying you coverage because of a pre-existing condition. And the main difference between my plan and Senator Clinton’s plan is that she’d require the government to force you to buy health insurance and she said she’d ‘go after’ your wages if you don’t. Well I believe the reason people don’t have health care isn’t because no one’s forced them to buy it, it’s because no one’s made it affordable – and that’s what we’ll do when I am President.

I’ll create a new and fully refundable tax credit worth $4,000 for tuition and fees every year, a benefit that students will get in exchange for community or national service, which will cover two-thirds of the tuition at the average public college or university. And I’ll also simplify the financial aid application process so that we don’t have a million students who aren’t applying for aid because it’s too difficult.

I’ll expand the child care tax credit for people earning less than $50,000 a year, and I’ll double spending on quality afterschool programs. We’ll also expand the Family Medical Leave Act to include more businesses and millions more workers; and we’ll change a system that’s stacked against working women by requiring every employer to provide seven paid sick days a year, so that you can be home with your child if they’re sick.

In addition to cutting costs for working families, we also need to help them save more – especially for retirement. That’s why we’ll require employers to enroll every worker in a direct deposit retirement account that places a small percentage of each paycheck into savings.

I’m proposing a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank that will invest $60 billion over ten years. This investment will multiply into almost half a trillion dollars of additional infrastructure spending and generate nearly two million new jobs – many of them in the construction industry that’s been hard hit by this housing crisis. The repairs will be determined not by politics, but by what will maximize our safety and homeland security; what will keep our environment clean and our economy strong. And we’ll fund this bank by ending this war in Iraq. It’s time to stop spending billions of dollars a week trying to put Iraq back together and start spending the money on putting America back together instead.

This topic has come up more than once here the last couple of weeks. I don't know whether this guy is "trouble" or whether he's just an anomaly, a product of an unusual upbringing. Time will tell.

That said, this might be a good time to read and to study The Bible. If you have trouble with certain aspects of church attendance, as I have (cough cough churchbullyatalargepresbyterianchurchintulsaoklahoma cough cough), there are lots of resources on the web - use your critical thinking skills to sort them out.

I read The Bible last year, all of it, and began a semi-systematic study of it. Let's say that it didn't hurt a bit...

Better than any TV show, I might add.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but don't we already get to deduct mortgage interest on our taxes? That is the only deduction homeowners get anymore. We used to get credit card interest as well.

Me too. I don't want to see McCain get the nomination but after learning more about this guy...I don't think I could just sit this one out. I am disgusted as all get out with the GOP this year and would love to make a statement. But reading his platform...very scary stuff.

This will sell to the 50% of Americans who are already on the government dole to some extent or another.

Sadly we have reached that tipping point where more than half the electorate is on the government gravy train. So we have a long way to go to get back to normal.

You can not tax business to death. They are the ones who make the jobs..

Why are democrats so bad at basic economics?

He is for green collar jobs (sounds trendy), curing global poverty since LBJ’s worked so wel here, going through the UN, paying college for kids that spend an hour hanging out in a soup kitchen, VA Hospital, Aids clinic etc. All in all it sounds like teh start of the industrial revolution doesnt it. Healthcare for all too. The thing is I know more about him than his fans do.

You can deduct it off of your income, which can reduce your tax liability. He's talking about a "tax credit" which is a direct reduction of your tax liability.

If we can fend off Goreist carbon credits and other fees and fines, green-collar is our best chance of new manufacturing industry.

Plus it’s fun. I worked on some lithium-ion batteries for the transportation sector, had a blast. It’s important we move non-petro energy sectors forward.

One way we can start debunking the Obama myth is to stop this nonsensical equivalence jibberish about Obama and McCain. There has never been a more distinct difference between two major candidates.

Just consider one issue:

Barack Obama has said he would lift the income ceiling on the Social Security tax. Currently, only the first $97,500 of a person’s annual income is taxed; the cap is scheduled to rise to $102,000 next year. He said that increasing the income ceiling would allow relatively well-off taxpayers such as himself to pay a little more to rescue the system.

Do the math, people.

Combine the expiration of the Bush tax cuts (e.g., the return of increased income tax rates and the marriage penalty) along with in effect, a new marginal 6.2% increase above $97,500.

No wonder Rush and Hannity have given Obama a free pass. They can’t wait until he’s nominated. Hell, they can’t wait until he’s elected.

Talk about the return of the good old days of the 1994 Angry White Man. They won’t mind eveyone paying more in taxes, because the anger will be overwhelming.

Then, they’ll come along at the last minute - too late - and say:

“See, I told you so.”
