Ford was a major RINO.

I believe McCain to be less Conservative and less a Republican than Ford. I'm not buying the idea that Reagan would not have come to the conclusion that the Republican Party left him as the Democrat Party did.

I agree. I know that just coming out and saying ‘Vote for McCain like robot’ is not gonna work. They made their living be giving honest opinions. The MDS though is just too much.

He would figure four years with a RINO would be better than even one day with Hillary or Obama.

He would be wrong.

The few remaining Rs in congress are less likely to support the leftist leanings of Hillary or Obama than they are to support the equally leftist leanings of McCain.

When Reagan coined his 11th commandment, the GOP supported conservatism.

You don't know what Reagan would do any better than his party-line son does.

I wonder if Reagan would have supported John McCain’s voting record. Simply having an “R” after the one’s name isn’t reason enough, especially if that person is the source of party discord and antagonism due to frequently siding against the party. Does the party get stronger due to and passionately fall in behind McCain? Sure doesn’t look like it right now.

“I don’t appreciate the sentiment he endorses when he says ‘the alternative is unthinkable to anyone who loves this nation.’”

I agree with you. That’s the kind of thing we’ve been reading. Some folks have even been called “un-american and un-patriotic” for not voting for mccain. Sad.

I believe McCain to be less Conservative and less a Republican than Ford.

Ford was outspoken against the war in Iraq, was very pro-abortion, and was not the budget hawk that McCain is. If Reagan could support Ford, it is hard to make a case that he wouldn't support McCain.

Maybe he would back him now.

Prior to the primaries, I doubt it.

Not yet. Not until he had the full number of delegates.

Different times Michael.

Your father did not have a Republican Nominee whose main goal seems to be the destruction of the GOP and the Reagan conservatives faction with in the GOP.

I’m old enough to remember President Ford. His solution to inflation was to pass out “Whip Inflation Now” buttons. And I’m also old enough to remember that the long gas lines started before Carter.

President Reagan would have supported the Republican nominee over Hillary or Obama no matter who it was. He would figure four years with a RINO would be better than even one day with Hillary or Obama.

President Reagan was not facing an opponent who would grant Amnesty to 20-40+ million Illegal Alien DEMOCRAT voters on top of the millions of Chain-Migration DEMOCRAT voters that would leave the GOP in the Minority for decades to come.

I do believe that Michael has this one wrong.

Ronald Reagan would have been labeled a second tier candidate by the MSM and forced to drop out after Iowa and New Hampshire. The MSM controls the primary selection process now.

We didn’t have a war in Iraq when Reagan supported him. I was speaking of Ford then and Reagan then and comparing it to McCain now. Ford has continued to go Left since that day, but was less Liberal and definitely more loyal to the Party in the day.

All one needs to do is consider how important Ronald Reagan considered the “right to life.” He would have never hesitated in a contest with John McCain who has been on our side on this and Obama and Hillary who both have supported partial birth abortion and public financing of abortion. Obama is not up to leading America in the dangerous world we live in, and Hillary’s foreign policy adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski was in Syria sucking up to Assad while someone was killing one of the world’s leading terrorist. Under President Bush, Mughniyeh mysteriously dies in a bombing that shows Assad’s impotence. Under Clinton or Obama, Assad and Mughniyeh continue to run rampant.

I think you underestimate how liberal the GOP was prior to Reagan. Ford was a tax increaser, a big spender, socially liberal, and Soviet appeaser. Ford was a solid Republican, but what the GOP was not the conservative party that it has become post-Reagan.

Question is does Reagan’s 11th Commandment apply to a person, such as John McCain, who has demonstrated he has no party loyalty at all?

I'm not a McCain supporter but the answer is, once he has become the nominee, YES. Does it make you feel good no. But to continue our bickering over the candidate reflects poorly on the Republican party as a whole.

The party platform is still in play and this may be where we conservatives send a message to Senator McCain. Conservatives need to get involved in the party platform and make sure that the wishy washy elements of our party do not water it down.

There are also some concessions we should push for from Senator McCain, like getting a conservative as Republican Party Chairman. After McCain wins the election Conservatives should start building inside the Republican party. We need a Conservative Republicans group (similar to the Young Republicans) where we can become more organized within the Republican party and try to avoid splitting the conservative vote.

In the end conservatives have a stark choice...

Do all you can to elect the most liberal Republican to ever run for President, or, sit on your hands and watch the most liberal Democrat candidate since McGovern take over a country that is under attack by foreign and domestic terrorist, and a country with a lunatic fringe within it’s own population who agree with most of those terrorist.

Please hold your noses and do the right thing. Elect McCain.

He’s is a very pathetic candidate who’s never had to really win and election in his life. So he’ll need all the help he can get to save the office of President from becoming home sweet home to that lunatic fringe and the foreign fools like Chavez who relish the idea of a Presidency that would make Jimmy Carter’s administration look conservative by comparison.

And for anybody out there holding out for better Republican field in 2012. Think of the severe damage that can be done in 4 short years.

Under Jimmy Carter’s watch…

Nicaragua was taken over by communist.

The Panama cannel was handed over to a drug lord.

Russia gained the upper hand over the United States and invaded Afghanistan.

Iran fell to fundamentalist lunatics who have spread their hatred of all other religions and insane philosophy throughout the middle east.

The American people made a huge mistake electing Jimmy Carter, and the United States and the rest of the world continue even today to pay for his mistakes with death, destruction and anarchy that would never have occurred had he not occupied the office of President.

Think about it... Do the right thing.

I like Reagan’s son, but unless he has some sort of line to the hereafter, it’s all conjecture on his part.

McCain and Romney are throw-backs to that GOP. The Party has left the position Reagan moved to it over. They want to move back to the Left and appeal to the Left on their own terms. I submit that Reagan would have left this party as he did the Democrats for moving too far to the Left.
