HD-DVD was DOA... I can’t believe Toshiba let MS play them so easily in their larger battle to harm Sony.

“what do I need to play blue ray dvds? does this mean I have to buy another dvd player?”

You’ll need a blu-ray player. In addition, you’ll need a high definition television.

I am so %$#@* mad!! I refuse to accept the idea that Blu-Ray will be the format for the next four years! I'd rather go back to VHS, if that is what it takes, to teach the so-called "industry" big shots that we will never, ever, ever accept Blu-Ray!

I think Blu-Ray’s triumph over HD-DVD is just another sign that the American people as a whole won’t pick what is better, but rather what has better advertising. See current politicians for more information.

But then, maybe my HD-DVD player makes me slightly biased. Ahem.

blu-ray players do play “regular” DVDs, don’t they, though?

Poetic justice.

Remember, it was Toshiba who sold the USSR backup electrical generator batteries for submarines so they couldn't be detected after Sony refused to do so on the grounds that they could be used against Japan or Japan's closest ally-- us.

Is anyone buying blu-ray? I don’t see any need to buy a new player and I imagine it will be some time before most consumers do.

This is why it’s nice to let others be the first ones in the pool. Let others spend money on new tech until the details get sorted out, then come in and get the industry standard at a fraction of the initial cost. I’ve survived all these years without the extra pixels. I am pretty sure I can make it a few more.
