Majority Of Romney Delegates Remain Undecided

LANSING, Mich. (AP) ― The majority of Michigan's Republican presidential delegates say they'll back Senator John McCain now that primary winner Mitt Romney is out of the race.

Romney's 23 delegates will go to the national convention as uncommitted, but 18 now say they'll back McCain. McCain already has 10 Michigan delegates that he won in the state's January 13th primary.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee will get two delegates based on those primary results. Plus at least three Romney delegates now say they will also back Huckabee.

Michigan Republicans met Friday and Saturday to nominate delegates to the national convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul in September.

Before anything, Michigan should demand and get their full count of delegates. 4 years from now, the Republican party should have a one day primary where all 50 states vote at the same time with all the candidates on everyone’s ballot.

Given that McCain told the state of Michigan that industrial jobs that had left were never coming back...and that we should get over it...

There is not a snowball’s chance in hell that he can carry the state.

In fact, he will not carry more than ten states in the fall.

Start looking to 2012.

Michigan deserves all of it’s delegates and North Carolina deserves a primary with more than one candidate on it’s ballot.

No they don't, the Michigan Republican Party knew going in that they would lose half of their delegates if the primary was before Feb. 5.

Our state party leadership started taking action to set up an alternate method of choosing delegates, last Sept. just in case our Presidential Preferance Election was held before Feb. 5.

Either the Mi. Party leaders didn't care, or weren't paying attention.

Then North Carolina should have held their primary on February 5, or soon after. I don’t think they were forced to wait until later.

I don’t know why there was a line in the story that said a “majority” of Romney delegates remained undecided. It sounded like 18 were going to McCain, 3 to Huckabee, and 2 hadn’t said one way or another.

I’m guessing McCain will get most of the Iowa delegates when they finally have their state convention. And probably most of the Nevada and Wyoming delegates as well.

If McCain had given his convention votes in West Virginia to Romney, he’d have another 18 delegates.

Right. And then the nominee will be whoever has the greatest name recognition before anyone has been paying much attention and who will have received as little as 10-20% of the votes cast. Terrible idea!

Nonsense. Obama, if nominated, will be the least experienced, most leftist nominee ever. Hillary, if nominated, will be the most hated nominee ever. I like McCain's chances against either one just fine.

McCain may carry the following...Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and maybe Kansas and Nebraska.

McCain = Dukakis.

“Michigan deserves all of it’s delegates... .”

The Michigan primary was held with the delegate reduction rules known in advance. It may have been a stupid rule but it was the one all the states all played by.

Michigan went into its early primary knowing the consequences .. so why are we going to change the rules after the fact? That’s what the Clinton campaign is trying to do in Michigan and Florida.

Changing rules after the game has been played is ultimately unfair to the candidates who did play by the rules, and to the people who chose to vote in those elections, or who chose not to vote because of the parties’ rules.

Each state decides when its caucus/primary will be held. If you want NC to have an earlier primary, work to effect change from within the state. Originally when the primaries were set up, especially “Super Tuesday” it seemed the VA primary would be an afterthought, yet it was among the pivotal races .. it was Huckabee’s Waterloo but he doesn’t realize it yet.

Yes, and the theory was that if the Democrats nominate Pelosi as minority leader they would forever be a minority party. Only that wasn't the case. The reality is that more and more Americans like big government as long as they think they will come out ahead. The races have been extremely close and no way will the party that has to go around scolding its members into even showing up at the polls end up the winner. The left is strong and the right is weak. We had better just focus on races we can win. The Presidency is gone.

There are a number of people who are repeatedly making stupid, negative, worthless posts here on FR because of their disappointment over McCain's nomination. This is what is known on the internet as "trolling". It is time for you all to grow up. If you have something intelligent to say, then say it. Otherwise, STFU already.

Straw man argument. I never heard this "theory" and it is completely irrelevant anyway.

In November there will be two names at the top of the ballot, McCain and either Obama or Hillary. If you think that most Americans are fine with ALL of the following: a weaker defense, higher taxes, no right to keep and bear arms, unrestricted free abortion for all, socialized medicine, etc., then you're living in a different world than I am.

I suspect McCain Derangement Syndrome here.

How about rotating the order every 4 years so the same states are not the ones who always get to decide who stays on the ballots. Michigan tried to move up and got punished for it by losing half their delegates. The present system is broken. Something has to be done to fix it. At least by holding a one day primary last in the season, two or three months before the convention, all the candidates have a chance to visit what ever states they feel they need to visit to get their recognition. Also I feel the winner take all system for some states and not others is not working this time around. Either all states do it, or none.

At this point with only one candidate left, it doesn’t matter to the candidate how many delegates Michigan has, but it makes a difference on voting for plank and platform construction.
