Democrats Look for Way to Avoid Convention Rift
New York Times ^ | 2-16-2008 | DON VAN NATTA Jr. and JO BECKER

Former Vice President Al Gore and a number of other senior Democrats plan to remain neutral for now in the presidential race in part to keep open the option to broker a peaceful resolution to what they fear could be a bitterly divided convention, party officials and aides said Friday.

Democratic Party officials said that in the past week Mr. Gore and other leading Democrats had held private talks as worry mounted that the close race between Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton could be decided by a group of 795 party insiders known as superdelegates. The signs that party elders are weighing whether and how to intervene reflects the extraordinary nature of the contest now and the concern among some Democrats that they not risk an internal battle that could harm the party in the general election.

With all of the money and power on the line, and given the evil nature of the Clintons, and all they stand to lose, I seriously doubt that they will let anything or anyone stand in their way.

On way or another, be it politics, vote fixing, blackmail, or old fashioned dark alley ironworks, they are going to clench the nomination?

I’m not sure she’s sane enough to realize it, but the presidency is not worth it for her. She has to beat Obama unfairly to get it, and that will enrage millions of Democrats. She would go down in flames, to a permanent state of discredit, rather like Nixon, but worse. (Racism trumps hypocrisy in the Dem catechism, and racist she will be branded.)
John McCain will fare poorly, if Obama does win the nomination. Opposing a black man will be depicted as a racist campaign, through and through.
I do think one of them could beat Obama, sooner or later, but there would be hell to pay. If it’s McCain, BDS will look like a lovers’ spat in retrospect.

It wasn't any fun at all. As a 15 year old boy watching it on TV, it felt as though the entire fabric of the nation was coming apart. The usual peaceful means of resolving debate were replaced by violence in the streets adding to the general chaos in the nation. It was not a "fun" experience in the least. It was frightening.
