There are many compelling reasons to consider Palwenty as a running mate. His popularity in his home state definitely helps.

I've thought Pawlenty made the most sense as a VP candidate for some time now.
Given McCain's age and relatively poor health, his VP choice should be extremely important for conservatives. I would be pleased with Pawlenty.

Pawlenty’s a statist, nothing more than a Northern TX Gov Perry.

He has been frighteningly squishy on certain issues such as sucking up to the globull warming crowd. He has been decent on state spending but has hurt conservatives outside the metro area by constant pandering to the ring suburbs. It's hard to drum up support for conservative candidates in my part of the state when they look at the governor essentially ignoring us.

Pawlenty is not that popular. He barely won re-election in 2006 only after his Democratic opponent called a TV reporter a "Republican whore" the weekend before election.
I think it's pretty much a given McCain will choose Charlie Crist or Kay Bailey Hutchinson as his running mate.
