McCain will not ask me to be his running mate: Jindal 18 Feb 2008, 0909 hrs IST

WASHINGTON: Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has said Republican front-runner and presumptive presidential nominee Senator John McCain will not ask him to be his vice-presidential mate even though his name was circulating in some conservative circles.

"He's not going to ask me," Jindal said when asked what his response would be if Senator McCain asked him to be his running mate.

"Look, he's not going to ask me. But, no, my focus is on Louisiana. I've been elected. I've told the people of Louisiana, this is our chance to fix our state, and I mean that. I don't think we'll get this chance again in our lifetimes. So it is my responsibility to work with the legislature and the voters," he said on CNN's Late Edition.

"We're in the middle of an historic ethics session. I promise your viewers this -- we'll move Louisiana from the bottom five to the top five when it comes to ethics and good government," Jindal said.

Jindal's name had started doing the rounds in the media speculation of Number two candidates it has attracted a lot of attention from members of the Grand Old Party because its candidate for the November 4 Presidential Election is very much locked up.

The former Governor of Arkansas Michael Huckabee has said he will not bow out of the Republican race until a nominee officially gets the 1191 delegates which Senator McCain is very close to getting. Huckabee has no mathematical chance of winning the GOP nomination and is still seen in some quarters as a potential Vice Presidential pick.

Jindal's name is among a list circulating in networks after CNN's Late Edition show host brought his name up and said the young Louisiana Governor is the next Ronald Reagan.

Not too surprising. Considering he was just elected in November

Plus he’s too young. He needs to get more experience as governor before running for President.

And he was being modest. I saw the interview. BTW Wolf Blitzer also was trying to get Jindal to say that Obama is great for all the same reasons as Jindal, and even trying to imply that Jindal should support Obama.

Jindal wasn't buying.

If he manages to turn around the banana republic known as Louisiana, that will be a major plus mark on ones political resume.

Which is why he should be left on the vine to ripen.

Rush said the same thing the other day.

Why should Bobby get tainted by McStain? His conservative credentials would be forever questioned.

Jindal has a bright future. Obviously, he needs time to be Governor to make his record.

Jindal could be President in the near future. He needs to stay away from RINOs like McInsane.

You’re right, he did.

The difference between Jindal and Obama is that Jindal has actually turned things around. Jindal turned a bankrupt Medicaid program in Louisiana into one that was financially solvent when he was finished. I don’t think Obama has ever managed things.

Of course, the entire state government of Louisiana is another thing. Therefore, he is smart to sit this election out and work on fixing Louisiana, thereby improving his future prospects in Politics.

The sad thing is he has more actual experience then Obama. But we need him here (Louisiana).

Agree. It would be foolish for Jundal to run as flavor of the month. Better to stay where he is and build a record he can run on later.

Most any state would be a banana republic if they had to contend with New Orleans. That place is a crapper even worse than some places in New Jersey. Actually I think it might the worst big city in the country.

Being from Louisiana, I re-semble that remark.
But after 25 years here I have to agree with your assessment to a degree. I hope Mr. Jindal is able to turn the state around along with the mindset of the La political processes.

If he is successful with that then maybe he can work the same miracle with Muslim “extremists”..

Is Jindal a natural-born citizen? I thought he came here as a child.
