It's worse than giving the sw back to Mexico.

It's the equivalent of the UN having Russia bomb the SW, then having EU and Russian peacekeepers hold the territory until it could be given back. Not that I think Bush would object really.

This is an infantile move that will come back to haunt us. Serbs are people who remember grudges for 600 years!

Kosovo will never be recognized at the UN as long as Russia sits on the Security Council.

The drive-by media is reporting that Bush’s recognition of Kosovo statement came without State Department consultation and it blind-sided the State Department.
The official government policy was to let the European Union nations take diplomatic action on Kosovo first and gauge that reaction before the US would take action.
Bush’s statement cancelled out that plan.
A case of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing.

Does the Prez have the power to recognize a foreign country?

Great, while were at it, let’s just give the Southwestern U.S. back to Mexico.

We already have.

C’mon, he’s an over-achiever!

I hope your wrong but I fear your right. This will degenerate into a shooting sooner rather than later. A dumb move that helps no one. Only if nations do nothing will this not spark a war and I can’t see Serbia doing nothing for long.

“Why does the US continue to enable Islam?”

Because we have fools as leaders.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

Not only that but this a good move in another sort of way. Just as Israel has completely pulled out of Gaza, the world now sees that an Islamic state isn’t viable and we indeed see their true motives.

Hopefully, Kosovo will prove beyond any shadow of doubt that they’re not for independence but total domination of neighbors also.

Independent states at war instead of civil wars, and perhaps in the long run Kosovo will return to Serbia only minus thousands of terrorists.

Independent states at war instead of civil wars,

That's certainly a good objective.

That other thread with the idiotic quote about killing all the Albanians has no excuse no matter what the history.

Deport the criminals and traitors to Kosovo, ok; kill men, women and children because of their ethnicity or religion, no. Period.

Kosovo is northern Albania, and Albania, for historic reasons, is perhaps the most pro-US country in the world ( and unfortunately that includes the USA!). The main airport in Albania is Mother Teresa International Airport, named of course after their most famous citizen, who as it happens was not a Muslim. So while Russia makes some good points on this matter, I think the rhetoric predicting imminent disaster is probably not correct.

Mother Teresa has absolutely no connection to Kosovo and was never a citizen of Kosovo! She was born and raised in Macedonia to Albanian parents (that is, her parents were from Albania and not from Kosovo)! Do a google search and you will find almost all webpages say the same...except for maybe those from Kosovo Albanians.

Dumb move. He should at least have waited. Speculation was that there would be three “waves” of acceptance - first the Muslim countries, then the EU, and finally the US and a couple of hold-out EU countries.

Instead, what do we see: the US is first out of the gate. Maybe we qualify as a Muslim country after all.

This is stupid, stupid, stupid.

I do agree that the Albanians who had to endure Hoxha's Stalinist rule, will tend to be more pro-American. Of course, the lasting legacy of Hoxha is the destruction of all religion in Albania. That is why today, Albania is predominantly secular. However, this did not happen in Kosovo. And in the future, I foresee a movement from there that will try to create an Islamic 'Greater Albania'.

It couldn’t be so simple. If it is so simple how could it possibly be important?

Albanian school children are taught that the country owes its independence to the American President Woodrow Wilson who lobbied on their behalf after WW 1.

Rewarding a country run by thugs which has specialised in drug running and human slave trading, along with incredibly high unemployment. This is the leadership we just handed a prize to and applauded with a “good job”.
I will never forgive Bush.
