Worshippers praise youth pastor for confessing to 1994 slaying
HOUSTON A youth minister who confessed to the unsolved 1994 killing of a convenience store clerk is being widely forgiven by worshippers at his former church who say they admire his courage to finally surrender to police.
Calvin Wayne Inman, 29, remains jailed without bond since being charged Wednesday with capital murder in the stabbing death of a clerk during an alleged plot to steal cash and cigarettes. He was 16 at the time.
In the first service Sunday at the 800-member Elim Church since Inman was arrested last week, congregants praised the recently ordained minister as a born-again role model taking responsibility for his sin.
"He's a hero, really," said Kelley Graham, 24. "I don't know how many people would do what he did. The Bible says you just need to confess to God. Calvin took an extra step."
Inman kept his alleged killing a secret before telling Ron Nissen, senior pastor of the Pentecostal church, several weeks ago. Nissen, who said Inman found his way to the church in 1999, encouraged his youth pastor to surrender.
Cries of "Amen" and vigorous applause filled Elim Church on Sunday as Nissen told worshippers that Inman is still beloved by congregants.
Robin Thac's 17-year-old son was active in the youth group that Inman led.
"I am thrilled my son has a role model to accept responsibility the way Calvin has," Thac said. "There are way too many men who don't accept responsibility."

Bloody idiots calling themselves 'Christians' when they are in fact no such thing...

Fantastic, he is forgive. That does not mean he gets off scott free, there still is a civil and legal penalty for him serve.
He will serve it forgiven.
Someone will eventally refer to it as a “mistake” like he accidentally went to the store and killed the clerk.

Middle name “Wayne.” Should have been a giveaway.
His conversion experience was well after the murder. Though it took time, in the end, he did the right thing.
>>>>”I don’t know how many people would do what he did.
Can’t say I know many murderers either.
“Bloody idiots calling themselves ‘Christians’ when they are in fact no such thing...”
Why do you think that? God forgives sins. If you don’t believe that, you cannot be a Christian.
The fact is that he did the right thing, despite the fact he probably would never have been caught otherwise.
How do you figure? Based on your comment, I would have to guess you are not one.
I’m on the side of those who think that this is a very courageous and righteous action to turn himself in.
Good point. These “Christians” have no legal or biblical right to forgive the bastard of anything. This country has reached a point where we need a lot less forgivenes and a lot more swift and brutal punishment.
Obviously.
But since it's not the place of these phoney baloney 'worshipers' to do any of the forgiving here my point still stands.

These people give Christians a bad name. Church discipline exists for far lesser offenses than this. I understand leaving his ultimate judgment to the Almighty, but this old boy needs to be hastened in that direction.
HELLO, MCFLY!!! That is why he turned himself in to the police.
It seems to be an example of a true conversion to God. He took action and turned himself in. May God have mercy on him.
So you think Christians should not forgive those whom God has forgiven? Wrong, IMO.
Exactly. If his repentance is genuine, he is spared eternal punishment. However, he still is subject to temporal punishment, via the government. Romans 13. Paul said the same thing in Acts, telling Festus or Felix (lol which one) that if he, Paul, did anything deserving of death, he (Paul) refused not to die.
The guy already resigned from the church.
What are they supposed to do? Drive to the jail and throw rocks at him?
BTW, ever heard of Saul? Did the early church give Christians a bad name by following his teaching?
“Church discipline exists for far lesser offenses than this.”
Huh? He has received church discipline — he is no longer employed there is he? And he will be receiving punishment through the legal system. The point is that God forgives, and so should we.
