George H. W. Bush endorsed John McCain for president today, which gives an added push for Mike Huckabee to withdraw. Saying that McCain has the "right values and experience," the 41st President attempted to strike a chord with conservatives and generate unity behind McCain:
Former President George H.W. Bush endorsed John McCain today as the man best prepared to succeed his son, saying the Arizona senator has the ``right values and experience to guide our nation forward.''
``No one is better prepared to lead our nation at these trying times than Senator John McCain,'' the 41st president said at a news conference in Houston as McCain stood at his side.
The former president and McCain said Republicans need to draw on a broad base of voters to keep the White House.
``We as a party must unite and move forward and attract not only members of our own party but independents and so-called Reagan Democrats,'' McCain said.
The timing comes as a little surprise. Usually, former presidents stay out of primary contests, but obviously Bush 41 wants to see an end to the divisiveness in the GOP. Having the establishment line up with McCain provides a gentle prod to Huckabee.
Bush 41 joins his more popular son Jeb in endorsing McCain. Jeb probably carries more weight with conservatives than either his father or his brother. In fact, 41 has had his differences with the same faction to which McCain's critics belong, but his profile and his standing with conservatives improved with a little bit of historical perspective. McCain may be hoping for a similar reconsideration with 41's backing.
Michelle Malkin notes that while McCain celebrates the endorsements from Jeb and 41, 43 might be a different story.
How thrillng for the party and conservatives in particular!!!!
Note to McCain campaign,
Refering to anyone who is critical of your guy as the “Far right” like George Bush 1 just did in endorsing McCain, is NOT going to help you “build a bridge to Conservatives”.
Still not voting for you John.
LOL - that is exactly what I was thinking. Wasn’t this the guy who called Reagan’s economic policies “voodoo economics,” only became pro-life when it was apparent that it was a political necessity and then raised our taxes?
He was great at foreign affairs, as would be McCain.
I don't care who endorses who.
It's MY decision who to vote for.

If Minister Obama is elected, our nation will not survive — even if the name does. Obama will wage the biggest redistribution of the wealth program in the history of Western Civilization. We will soon be living under black minority rule. And our cities will make Hotel Rwanada look like a Club Med. His “church’s” mandates are his Mein Kampf. And we ignore them at our own peril.
President Bush Sr. reasserts his right to be wrong one more time. A genuine war hero and a rinos rino.

It was Gingrich who threw enough bombs to get the Republican Congressional majority in 1994. It was this clown who complained about Gingrich's audacity ("he's supposed to be my wingman").
The Bush's simply assume that power is their birthright, no matter how badly they screw up. All we get from them is stupid lectures about how we're supposed to get in line and support their latest dim idea.
I stopped listening to drivel like that a long time ago. I'd like to take the "stupid" out of the The Stupid Party, and it starts by getting rid of imbeciles who wag their fingers at us while making deals with the Marxists and Muslims. And of course, one other "M" word which I dare not utter here for fear of being Un-Correct.
Yeah, when Bush and McCain doddered up onto the stage there, it kinda resembled something you might see in a retirement home. Is that the image the GOP is going for?
That is certainly possible.
We’re in 2 wars:
1. With radical Islam. Obama loses this one for us. McCain might keep us competitive.
2. Culture war. Obama defeats us for this one. McCain would be better on judges.

W would have spent the last eight years cutting brush full time on his ranch were it not for the Conservatives who his Father derisively refers to as "Far Right". What a load from these out-of-touch elites.
Ummm. I don't remember Reagan acting like a democrat to attract their votes.
