This is a rush transcript from "Hannity & Colmes," February 15, 2008.
ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: ...Former vice presidential nominee and McCain supporter, Jack Kemp, penned an open letter to these critics. And he wrote. quote, "you gave them your best shots and he took it like a man. Now as he head toward the nomination, I urge you to continue to be critical but to do so in measured ways that will not damage his ability to win in November." Joining us now to explain further, Jack Kemp, Secretary Kemp, welcome back to "Hannity & Colmes."
COLMES: ... Are the conservatives who are attacking John McCain or differing with him, depending upon which person you're listing to, what the tone is, hurting the Republican party?
KEMP: No. I, you know, eventually, you want them to be on board a McCain campaign, I think the Bible says very clearly who "he who wrestles with us strengthens us." And I think John has been strengthened by going through this. I hope that as you pointed out, in quoting my letter, that the criticisms are measured here as he comes closer to the nomination so that when he does run against Barack or Hillary, he's not weakened to the point where we end up electing somebody who would wave a white flag to Al Qaeda or end up putting Supreme Court justices on the Supreme Court who are to the left of where the American people are.

That may not be true.
McGruff cares about his nerves. He's complaining about it.
You know you people and your OMG Barak Obama is going to be president if you dont vote for McCain are getting on my nerves.
And Skeeter cares about what people eat:
You enjoy that sh*t sandwich your betters in the party have prepared for you.
So many gems to choose from . . .
Yet another refugee rolls off the DUng heap and tries to co-opt liberal talking points.

Yes, Jojo, a prolife position is for the children. I didn’t think I would have to explain that on a conservative website.
But hey, who care about that issue. It’s not like it is life or death.
Dont you love it when the politicians blame the voters for causing their candidates to lose instead of blaming the party for running losers for candidates?
You hit the nail on the head with that one!
Have fun not backing a pro life candidate. You sure you are a REAL CONSERVATIVE?!
Oh my goodness. There isn't enough time in the day to repost all of the crazy/insulting/condescending/panicked/sarcastic comments from the McCain side. You really don't want to get into that p*ssing match.
That was great!
I’m still laughing. Can’t hold onto my coffee cup.
I wouldn’t feel too guilty about taking your stand, the Republican Establishment must have known the chance they were taking when they decided to go with McCain. They took the gamble and they should have known this would cause a back-lash. You reap what you sow. Personally, I will vote for McCain to stop Hillary, though I can’t stand him. But I understand where you are coming from and I can’t say I blame you. The Republican GOP really messed up this time. They didn’t learn a thing when there was a backlash about campaign refinance reform or amnesty, both works of McCain. They will be to blame when Hillary takes the oath of office, because once again, they didn’t read the writing on the wall.
How did those deals between Kemp and Hugo Chavez work out?
How about Samir Vincent?
Why not?
Wael, I know why not. Because all this is too stupid -- from all sides -- to spend days catalouging them. But, if you need to relieve yourself, hey, go for it. I laugh at anything that's funny.
And I won't support the RNC. No more money. If I give any donations, it will be directly to the candidates I support.
I wasn’t aware that Kemp was strongly supportive of McCain’s views on the border. That tells me a lot.
Why not put down the coffee & get yourself a nice glass of fruit juice instead? Better for the digestive process.
I thought of this for many days before I came to the conclusion I could not vote for a fake conservative/Republican, causing the demise of the Party. I have resigned myself to four years of Obama. He isn’t going to start killing babies so that argument doesn’t fly. I have worked for our state Party for years and believe, after this pesidential candidate fiasco, we can recover and field a decent, true conservative/Republican four years from now. I truly believe we must stick to our values and not destroy those by voting for Fake McCain.
Then I will opt out and write in. I will not vote for the likes of McCain.
November is going to hit the Republican party right between the eyes this year. And if it can’t get it’s act together, 2012 will be a repeat.
Good point. Life's short. I can't believe I've spent the last two days on this silly web site instead of enjoying the first break in the weather in a week!
Bingo.
Answer my question about Reagan first.
Face it...you wouldn’t even support Reagan if he were running today. I bet you’d be all over the abortion rights bill Reagan signed when he was governor of California. Not to mention the tax increase he signed into law. That and the fact that he stated he didn’t want a fence along our southern border, and the amnesty he gave away...LOL...you’d probably call Reagan a liberal.
Pragmatism, people. Pragmatism.
