Mom: Police Told Daughter To Stop Calling Before Murder-Suicide

'The Day She Died, She Knew She Couldn't Talk To Police,' Mom Says

DELAND, Fla. -- A Central Florida woman whose 17-year-old daughter was killed in a murder-suicide apparently committed by her ex-boyfriend said the teen was told by police to stop calling for help or she'd be arrested.

Police said Clay Coffner shot his estranged girlfriend, Natasha Hall, in the head outside her DeLand home Friday before turning the gun on himself.

Hall's mother, Sherry, said her daughter was concerned about Coffner and informed police.

In fact, Hall said her daughter called police so much that on Jan. 15 they threatened her.

"The police officer said if you call us one more time on him, I'm going to arrest you both," Sherry Hall said. "So, the day she died, she knew she couldn't talk to police. So, she handled it herself."

Michele Karpowicz said everyone noticed the warning signs before the homicide -- except police.

"I was going crazy," Hall's best friend said. "He was psycho, jealous and abusive."

Local 6 is trying to obtain a police call log to determine how many times the teen called police.

DeLand police officials have not responded to the allegations.

The police were obviously too busy busting into wrong houses and killing dogs in their never ending quest for weed.

Nobody should have a gun or try to defend themselves. The best thing to do is to call the police and wait. sarcasm off

Fire and jail them all, including the 911 operators.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the police have no duty to protect you. “You” being used in the generic form.

OMG>

She should have KEPT calling, so the cops would've come to arrest her. At least, she might have had a chance to stay alive.

The police can't protect you and are not legally obligated to do so. They come and draw the chalk outline and put the remains in a rubber bag.

You are responsible for your own safety. Too bad this girl and her family didn't realize that before.

Police cannot prevent crime. They just clean up after.

Why didn’t the mom do something.

Isn't there a book available called Call 911 --- and Die?

Maybe it needs an update.

They come and draw the chalk outline and put the remains in a rubber bag.

Often in their $3000 cute swat outfits, armed to the teeth and looking really cool...

<”I will not rely on the police to protect me or my family.”>

You’re absolutely right NOT to trust them.

They know they have no legal requirement to protect anybody, and can’t be sued for their inactions (only their actions).

"Fire and jail them all, including the 911 operators."

Can't. They have a very strong union.

Police today are nothing more them revenue agents.

I'd never call a cop.

The guys that break into my house, they are going to have to call the cops.

We had a situation in our family years ago when my aunt’s ex became a stalker and made her life— and my grandparents’ lives— hell, with his threats and harassment. After a couple of weeks, my two uncles came to town and took the stalker for a ride out on a lonely road. They showed him exactly where his body was going to be dumped if he did not leave their sister alone. The harassment stopped immediately.
