Mr. Geldof praised Mr. Bush for his work in delivering billions to fight disease and poverty in Africa, and blasted the U.S. press for ignoring the achievement.
Mr. Bush, said Mr. Geldof, "has done more than any other president so far."
"This is the triumph of American policy really," he said. "It was probably unexpected of the man. It was expected of the nation, but not of the man, but both rose to the occasion."
"What's in it for [Mr. Bush]? Absolutely nothing," Mr. Geldof said.
Mr. Geldof said that the president has failed "to articulate this to Americans" but said he is also "pissed off" at the press for their failure to report on this good news story.
"You guys didn't pay attention," Geldof said to a group of reporters from all the major newspapers.
Bush administration officials, incidentally, have also been quite displeased with some of the press coverage on this trip that they have viewed as overly negative and ignoring their achievements.

hmm. guess I’ll have to stop dissing bob. amazing.
Wow. Hearing this from Sir Bob is like seeing the sun rise in the west!

Geldoff has praised Bush for African policy a few times.
While there are some aspects of the Bush presidency that have disappointed me I think history will reveal what a good job this man has done.....
It is nice to know that someone that I consider of the left has an honest open mind.
Neil Young now Bob Geldof?? Wow.
It's alway seems it's America's responsibility to dole money and services out to the world but there's also always the slap in the face that soon follows any kind gesture.
For that matter, why can't Africa help itself. Keep AIDS infected men from raping young girls with society's approval would be a start.
Keep on rockin’ in the free world.
I’ve seen the needle and the damage done.
How else are they gonna cure their aids other than raping virgins?
It's hard to argue with a testimony like that.
So has Bono. I give them both credit for not having BDS.
Liberals can't grasp the concept of doing something from the heart or because its right. They expect you to grandstand before men and have them heap praise on you. Clinton would be doing non stop press conferences and photo ops letting people praise him.
And this article is from the Times not the Post. The MSM is so blatantly biased they really should turn in their credentials as news reporters. Only a few outlets print the truth and the big three, the NYT, the Wash Post and the LAT are absent without leave.
Regardless, he is correct that it hasn’t been articulated properly - as with most everything else
I may not always agree with them but they are honest about what they believe and that is respectable. I know that Geldoff has been less than kind when speaking about Clinton, saying that Clinton gave lip service but did “F all” for Africa.
Holy Crap. I think I re-like Bob.
So has Bono. I give them both credit for not having BDS.

You know Bono impressed me by praising Bush even after he said no to more funds for Africa. He could have blasted him for not giving more, but he praised for what he gave and also appreciated his blunt honesty for saying “enough”.
I do credit men like Geldof and Bono that, while misguided on issues, does give credit when due. The hyperpartisanship in this country where Bush can do no right is very disappointing. I think back to 8 difficult years with Clinton, but my life was not bitter and rancid like these people with BDS. Clinton disgusted me to the core, but he was the President. On the occasion where he did good, I did not oppose him for the sake of being in opposition.
