Obama + Bloomberg - Possible 3rd Party, anybody heard this?

Posted on 02/19/2008 8:31:46 AM PST by Scythian

I heard on one of my local radio talk shows that Obama met with John Edwards very recently. But more importantly the radio host stated that Bloomberg told Obama that if Obama wins the vote of the people but is muscled out as the nominee by back room deals made by the Clintons then Bloomberg would offer Obama as much as a billion dollars to go 3rd party with Bloomberg as the VP. Is this just crazy talk? My first thought was doesn't campaign finance make giving a billion dollars impossible?

I believe Bloomberg could spend his own money if he was the VP candidate, since candidates can spend their own money on their campaigns.

More Bloomberg BS! He and his minions have been floating all kinds of trial balloons lately to try and get onto someone’s ticket. Just yesterday, I saw a post promoting Bloomers as an outstanding VP running mate for McCain.

Bloomberg should save his money. He is no Ross Perot and 2008 is not 1992. McCain can’t excite the conservatives, and Bloomberg is more liberal than him. Obama has the left ideologues wrapped up also. What is bloomberg’s policy? Ban Trans-fats nation wide? Sorry Mike, we have more important things to do.

This election must be a circus because it’s so full of clowns.

I hope the Klintons do rip off ol Hussein. After that, a third party will just add to the fun. Since there’s nobody in the race I want to win, the more clowns the merrier the circus.

Bloomberg is going to run. It’s a near certainty. And he will buy everything and everyone that can be bought.

The corruption of the American political system is well-advanced.

Obama would have to be absolutely insane to do this. And say what you want about the man, he’s not stupid. He wants to be president. He knows that there has never been a successful third party run. He knows that if he runs as an independent in 2008 then he’ll never be able to run as a Democrat in 2012 or 2016. If he doesn’t get the nomination in 2008 then he’ll wait. He’s only 46.

There was a thread about it yesterday. I think Walter Williams was the source. Something about word on the street rumor. No facts behind it.

Pretty far-fetched, I think. I’ve been saying from the beginning that what Bloomberg is trying to do is bait one of the candidates into putting him on as VP. He goes to Hillary, and tells her that if she puts him on as VP, then he’ll use his billions to get her elected. If she doesn’t put him on as VP, then he’ll run as an independent and use his billions against her. When that doesn’t work, he says he’ll get the GOP to put him on as VP, and use his billions against her. Now he’s saying that he’ll get 3d party candidate Obama to put him on as VP, and use his billions against her. He also goes to the GOP, and makes the same threat against them.

Of course, he probably doesn’t tell this to their faces. He gets his surrogates and rumor mongers to communicate this to them.

The question is whether any of these candidates are stupid enough to fall for it.

What would be nice to see is a 4 way split this election. Conservative GOP split from RINO pubbies and somewhat moderate democrats split off from the Democratic Communist Party.
