Yup, unfortunately Goldwater hated Reagan — at what point that occurred, I’m not sure, he probably didn’t in 1964, but after Reagan’s successes, his election as CA Governor in 1966, when the mantle of leadership of Conservatism moved away from Goldwater, the bitterness, jealousy, and resentment grew with time. He came to believe Reagan reaped all the rewards from “his” movement, which he should’ve gotten himself.

I rather wish Goldwater had retired in 1980. His last term in office was a shameful embarrassment. His lying to pro-lifers, misleading Reagan on Sandra Day O’Connor (when she was no Conservative), and his final exit in 1986 allowing the equally unfortunate McCain to win his seat left a poor final legacy (and badmouthing SoCons and helping undermine them in AZ for the next dozen years was the icing on the cake). AZ could’ve had a giant like Congressman Eldon Rudd succeed Goldwater in 1980, one of the most Conservative individuals ever to serve from that state.

Fredheads need to vote and need to stay engaged. We got the House and Senate to take back. I won’t vote for McCain, but I’m going ot be working for a women trying to get back Leach’s old seat.

I make the decision who I vote for, not someone else.

A wise policy, especially since the one giving you advice in this case (End Times Crusader) is a leftist Democrat. Check his posting history and note how he uses the Harry Reid term "undocumented Americans" to describe illegal aliens, including the ones who have killed over 45,000 Americans in the past few years. Of course, if Americans had killed 45,000 illegals, he'd call them "terrorists".

End Times signed up with FreeRepublic a little while after the defeat of amnesty last year to moan about it. He poses as a Republican (pretends to be a fundamentalist Christian who wants to fight Muslims) but his main issue is wide open borders and the need for us to turn the southwest over to Mexico.

I was for Fred until I found he was a loser, another who ran a bad campaign, and if you can’t do that, how can you run a country?

Judging from your ignorant comments, your support wasn’t welcome in the first place.

Yes and everyone else who supported before he actually ran. (Remember the polls.) Boring!

I would vote for him as senator but keep him out of the White House.

Arizona had an interesting type of Democrat at the time called a “Pinto.” These Democrats were so Conservative that they made a lot of Republicans look like liberals. Bob Stump was elected to Congress in 1976 to the open seat of the very Conservative and semi-Libertarian Jewish Republican Sam Steiger (who unfortunately had lost the open Senate seat to Dennis DeConcini because of the brutal primary between himself and fellow Republican John Conlan) as a Pinto Democrat and was reelected as one in 1978 and again in 1980. Only when Stump realized that he was about as far out of place as could be in DC as a Conservative did he switch parties in 1981.

Schulz campaigned as a pro-lifer in 1980 and many of the pro-life activists in Arizona (in their hearts) wanted to vote for him instead, but they went to Goldwater to try to obtain a promise from him that he wouldn’t stymie or oppose (or advance) his pro-abort agenda, and Goldwater (lying) promised he wouldn’t advance the Planned Barrenhood cause, and they regretted their grudging endorsement (or at least non-vigorous opposition). I think Goldwater’s having been in DC for 30 years (1953-65; 1969-87) caused him to lose touch with Conservative perspective. Arrogance of power, as they say.
