Text: Remarks by Maryland Lt. Gov. Steele to the National Republican Convention

FDCH E-Media, Inc.

<excerpt>

Now, at the Democratic convention, we heard one word over and over again: hope. But there's a problem, my friends. Hope is not a strategy. Hope doesn't protect your kids from terrorism. Hope doesn't lower your taxes. Hope doesn't help you buy a home. And hope doesn't ensure quality education for your children.

STEELE: As the book of James reminds us: "It's not enough just to have faith. Faith that does not show itself by good deeds is no faith at all."

(APPLAUSE) You see, it's results that matter; and President Bush doesn't just talk about hope, he stands on a record of putting hope into action for America.

Close the Enthusiasm Gap With Straight Talk About Hope
By Lorie Byrd

In fact, Steele spoke about “hope” in that speech last year and put the same thoughts into an_open_letter_to_the_Republican_presidential_candidates.  Steele wrote:

“For years, I sat in audiences and listened as politicians tried to win over voters, especially minority voters, by talking about hope.  "Hope is on the way”, “keep hope alive”, “hope you have a nice day!” But our communities demand more from its leaders than “hope” because hope by itself is not a strategy. Hope doesn’t protect you from terrorists, hope doesn’t lower your taxes, hope doesn’t help you buy a home, and hope doesn’t ensure quality education for your kids.  What we Republicans can speak to and the kind of leadership Americans demand (and we can provide) affords every citizen the opportunity to turn their dreams into reality and their hopes into action for themselves and their families. Without action, hope passively waits on others to solve problems. Without action, hope looks to next year instead of doing the hard work required today. Without action, hope is powerless to transform lives.”

The Cubs and their fans have been doing this for the last 100 years.............just an example in case anyone was trying to come up with a "real-life application" to make it clearer.

I like Steele.
Now he would be a good VP choice for JM.

brilliant find. Michael Steele would be a good voice to counter the ‘hope’ and hope alone message.

Agreed. He would be a great choice, and it has nothing to do with his race.

Unfortunately, he appears to be wrong -- "But our communities demand more from its leaders than “hope” because hope by itself is not a strategy."

Right now, it looks like the community doesn't demand anything more than "hope", along with a list of unattainable "goals" that will essentially make their lives perfect at no expense or effort on their part.

I’m surprised that Steele’s comment on Hannity and Colmes last night hasn't been picked up by the media yet. He said he’s been advocating for Hillary.

That’s a message to McCain voters not to waste your vote on an already nominated Republican candidate in the upcoming primaries but to instead vote for Hillary ( if they’ll let you and if you got the stomach for it ). It’s all about the audacity of hoping for a Democrat uncivil war during their convention. It would be nice if we could make this happen.
