China: Politicizing Beijing Olympics unacceptable (Spielberg:naive & simple-minded?)

Politicizing Beijing Olympics unacceptable

A Western film director is so "naive and simple-minded" that he has made an inopportune move on the issue of Beijing's 2008 Olympic Games by linking it to Darfur issue in Sudan, and this perhaps exhibited the "unique" qualities of this Hollywood celebrity. Nevertheless, the "naivety or innocence" shown by a few Western media seems all the more ignorant and funny.

The bid to link the Darfur issue to the Beijing Olympic Games does not commence as off today. With regard to this issue, it is believed that about two million locals have fled their homes and some 200,000 people lost their lives in the five-year conflict. The issue is neither created by China, nor has nothing to do with its Africa policy. China in the last two years made actove. painstaking efforts to settle the Darfur issue and sent batches of peacekeeping troops to the region. A growing number of people across the world have been aware that joint efforts of the international community are in an urgent need to tackle the issue, and so it is unfair or unreasnable to link the issue to the upcoming Beijing Summer Olympics.

In so doing, some personalities or organizations in the West have two reasons to go by on the whole:

A. Looking at people through "colored spectacles," these figures or organizations always judge China's Africa policy by their Western norms. Western powers divided their spheres of influence during their colonial rule, and they too hope that China will follow suit and adopt relevant punitive measures to "manage or run well" the so-called spheres of influence.

Nevertheless, they fail to recognize that China has established principles for the settlement of Africa's regional and ethnical conflicts on an all-round, balanced political basis, which embody a new-type mode of strategic cooperation. This new type of Africa-China strategic, cooperative partnership has opened up a correct path for the development of the African continent … opened up a road for the revitalization and long-term development of the African continent, acknowledged Senegalese Minister of State and concurrently Minister of Foreign Affairs Cheik h Tidiane Gadio recently.

B. Some figures or organizations in the West give vent to their dissatisfaction under the cover of the Darfur issue. Superficially, they speak for the Darfur people's interests but, in essence, they impose punitive pressures upon China to seek political capital for their own benefits in disregard of the Olympic spirit. For years, they have kept up a hubbub unceasingly and made use of almost all international activities held in Beijing to make noises repeatedly and they of course will not let the Beijing Olympic Games slip by.

For the first category of Westerners or organizations in the West, we should continue marching on and work harder still and do things to the benefit of Africa in strict compliance with China's Africa policy and alter their views. We also sincerely hope the above mentioned Western director belongs to this category of people.

As for the second category of Westerners, the most forceful rebuttal is to do a good job of the Beijing Olympic Games. Usually, these people often overestimate themselves. As the Games is approaching, they will raise their pitches and shout at the top of their voices. With higher pitches, they will only tarnish or damage their fame or reputation. US President George W. Bush would come to attend the Beijing Olympic Games in August. "I would love to go to China to participate at the Olympic Games," he said last Thursday or February 14, as he referred to the Olympic Games as a great sport event.

A couple of senior ranking British secretaries or chancellors, nevertheless, have voiced their dissatisfaction with the action of the Western director because they deemed the boycott if the Olympic Games as erroneous. They are of the opinion that "linking the Darfur issue to the (Beijing) Olympic Games will not help to resolve this issue and is not in line with the Olympic Spirit that separate sports from politics.

The Beijing Olympic Games offers a great arena, as some Western media reported. However, China is not the sole player on the arena since a number of so-called human rights activists have also ascended the stage to act or play. Some media people should be clear that neither China nor the Beijing Olympic Games will be overpowered or overwhelmed. The Chinese nation is psychologically prepared that its national development is bound to be tested by misconceptions, sneers and swears. What the Beijing Olympics will demostrate is precisely a mature, assured China, which is facing up to the outside world with composure and confidence.

We should be boycotting this communist propaganda. You would think we learned our lesson in the 1936 Munich Games.

I think its funny that China objects to the politicizing of the Olympics. I mean what did they think was going to happen? The reason the Olympic committee chose China in the first place was purely political. Both China and the Olympic committee had to know going in that some people would object and use the opportunity to protest China's policies on a whole slew of subjects. Taiwan, Tibet, Sudan, Tianimen square, etc. etc. lol,, what a bunch of morons.
