He forgot it was there: TIA Passenger Had Box Cutter In Hollowed-Out Book.
TAMPA A 21-year-old Clearwater man was arrested at Tampa International Airport this weekend after security personnel found a box cutter in a hollowed-out book, authorities said.
About 7:30 a.m. Sunday, airport security ran Benjamin Baines Jr.s backpack through an X-ray machine and saw the image of a box cutter, according to a report from the Transportation Security Administration. When searching the backpack, a security officer found a book titled Fear Itself. The book was hollowed out, and the box cutter was inside.
After Baines was read his rights, he said his cousin had cut away the pages to make the hollow section in the book. Later, reports state, he said he had hollowed it out himself to hide money and marijuana from his roommates. Baines told officers he was moving to Las Vegas and forgot the cutter was in the book.
Officers found books in the backpack titled Muhammad in the Bible, The Prophets Prayer and The Noble Quran. He also had a copy of the Quran and the Bible.
Several sheets of paper in the backpack included rap lyrics that referred to police, narcotics, weapons and killing. Baines told officers he is a rapper who writes his own lyrics and that rap music writers need to play the part, the report states.
This happens to me all the time, forgetting what I put in my hollowed out books.
The enemy within.
GRRRREAT job whoever that TSA employee was! America’s finest! BUMP-TO-THE-TOP!
Well then I guess he needs to spend 10-to-15 in the pen to earn his "street cred".
Benjamin Baines, Jr.
I predict that within a month, new TSA rules will prohibit passengers from bringing books onto airplanes in carry-ons.
Thanks kcvl for constantly expanding our frame of reference with additional information.
“oopps was that in my back pack?”
Under the jail with him!
Throw away the key.
Naw, more like "Pardon me, ma'am, but I'll need you to step aside, take off your shoes, turn on your laptop, and read a few chapters of your book".
Ben is clearly confussed
When faced with a felony, confess to a misdemeanor.
Baines told officers he was moving to Las Vegas and forgot the cutter was in the book.
Who are his friends?
“Ben is clearly confussed”
Ben is clearly screwed, and should be going to the Federal pen.
If he forgot it was there, it’s because he has been messing around with terrorist plots and dreams on a regular basis, and neglected to take it out of his bag when he went to the airport.
Bad, bad idea. Waterboard him first.

I hope he isn’t related to Harold.
somebody please waterboard his ass to find out what he is really up to...
On Sunday, Baines was scheduled to fly Southwest Airlines Flight 338 to Jacksonville at 7:45 a.m., then catch another plane to Las Vegas,Remember this Southwest airlines passenger from the same day? LAX 'hoax' suspect in court today
Donovan Wenger, 37, who is locked up at the Metropolitan Detention in downtown Los Angeles, is scheduled to make his initial appearance before a federal judge at 2 p.m., said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.
I think you're being supercritical. But I would have no objection to waterboarding him one or twice before he is put to death. Maybe if he sings real good we could even wait a couple of months to make sure we got all we could before supplying the coup de grâce.
Security should just shoot him and say they “forgot it was loaded”.
Not the sharpest crayon in the box. Did he really think that paper prevents x-rays from penetrating?
He probably dog-ears the pages to mark his place too.
Yeah, he went to all that trouble to hollow out the book, then forgot about it. Sure. Thanks for the ping, looks like a recent convert to Islam.
Damned good idea. This guy was up to no good. Glad to see TSA give a good account of itself.
I know a lot of people who would welcome meeting this guy with a boxcutter on a plane. They should let a few of these guys get through every once in a while - just to show what happens.
Yup. That ought to do it. When he gets out Rap will have 'moved-on.'
More commentary here...
Thanks to Robert Spencer and the great posters at jihadwatch.

Hey, give him a break, everyone knows that a good boxcutter is hard to find in Vegas.
I did. It seemed like the prudent thing to do at the time...
Keepin' it real. Representin'.
Obviously a set-up by Rove & Bush to instill fear in the public and elect McCain over the softy dems.
He forgot the federal pen was in Kansas, too.
I think I’ve read (in the hundred-cellphones-bought-at-a-time threads) that their instructions are to have a cover story in case they’re caught. Apparently they are not instructed that the cover story should not be absolutely unbelievable BS.
Shouldn’t this be bigger news than some Wal-Mart cashier’s remark to a scarf-covered Muslim?
Yikes ! I fly in and out of that airport all the time
Common problem. Half the time I want .38's, I get the wrong book, then either have to find a different weapon, or hunt the shelves for the right ammo.
Last month, I had to reinforce the shelving, because the contents of the books were getting too heavy. I think it was the 12 ga slugs that were the final straw.
At least all the cut out pages are great for starting fires in the sood stove, though I always have to make sure I don't have any cans of powder hidden in it before lighting it.
Absolutely. It is the down side of using hollowed-out books for low-life things.
OMG! I had no idea he was black! Not that that matters.
Sadly, not much will happen to Ben!! Our Justice System is so broken!
Drudge has this up now
