The only thing that stinks about this is Miles Brand (Head of NCAA) is an idiot. Sampson probably deserves termination assuming the outcome of the NCAA ruling confirms the charges. Sampson had to know some of the stuff that was going on. Next, the athletic director.

this idiot athletic director needs to follow him right out the door for hiring a cheater. For all his faults, Knight ran a very clean program. That history is now ruined.

I agree, the contrast between Knight and Sampson is stark.

After everything they went through with Knight, I can’t believe they’d hire Sampson. They sold their soul in order to get one year out of Eric Gordon.

I believe the only reason Bobby would go back is so he could uhhhhh, spit, yeah spit, on the center court logo.

Spit was not what I had in mind but I cleaned it up a bit.

Myles Brand is an idiot. He not only wrecked IU athletics, but he wrecked the high academic standings of many of the university schools. IU’s Chemistry, Business, Music & Foreign Language schools were all highly rated when I was a student there in the late ‘70’s. Thanks the Chancellor Hermann Wells and President John Ryan. Under Brand X, those schools slid considerably. My son now attends arch-rival Purdue, with my blessing, because Krannert is a better business school than Kelley.

Now Brand X is off to ruin the NCAA. When the NCAA faces problems like steroid abuse, academic fraud, criminal activity cover-ups and other problems, Brand was able to zero in the the root of the problem: Native American team names!!!! Yep, we won’t let teams be called Chippewas or any such nonsense now! That put an end to all the cheating!!!!

Brand is your typical ivory tower liberal academician who couldn’t run the corner lemonade stand.

What faults did Knight have?
Players that were expected to actually be students?
Athletes that were taught to be good citizens and respect their elders and country?
HIs insistance on not being politically correct?

You ever coach anything?

You ever seen real bad refereeing?
Mr. Knight lost his temper and lost his cool, more than once.
A soccer team I coached beat a team 32 zero, regardless of what I did to try to keep the score reasonable. Putting my worst players as forwards etc and still we beat the other team like a drum.
Afterwards I had the coach and parents and even the ref try to beat me in the parking lot.
I swore at them and I’m the one that got called on the mat for the affair. Mr. Knight is a target

" What faults did Knight have? "

According to many who have done business with him and/or played for him, a severe personality disorder characterized by wildly bipolar behavior.

At least if the ESPN movie with Brian Dennehy (sp?) was accurate...

To run a clean operation that insists the athletes act like STUDENTS and gentlemen?

The truth is, I am a big Knight fan, an IU fan and a graduate (BS Chemistry ‘72). So There!

I’m an IU grad; I haven’t watched an Indiana game since the team lost to Pepperdine in the 2000 NCAA tournament. I’m a Knight guy through and through that still just hasn’t gotten over what they did to him.

That said, if they hire Dakich, that will do a lot to heal the pain. I might even start to cheer for them again, and I definitely would if Dakich got the Knight seal of approval.
