Lincoln, Ne.- A move to ban assault weapons in Nebraska is being reloaded.

Action 3 News has learned that State lawmakers will be asked to stop the sale of military style guns.

Upset by several recent mass shootings including one at Westroads Mall in Omaha where eight eight innocent people were shot and killed, Senator Brad Ashford, the Chairman of the Legislature's Judiciary Committee, has re-written his anti-gun bill.

The original bill did not mention rapid fire weapons, the new bill does.

Ashford wants to create a blue ribbon, Assault Weapons Commission, that will report back to the Legislature by next February 1st.

The commission would list which specific assault weapons should be banned.

Lawmakers would then vote up or down on the list. The bill cleared its first hurdle today, when the Judiciary Committee by a vote of 6-0 (with two abstentions) sent it to the full legislature, where Ashford promises it will be one of his top priorities.
