In more peaceable times, McCain calls reporters "my base." He is chummy even with New York Times stars like Maureen Dowd, and uses Adam Nagourney as a frequent punchline. But the campaign is, at least for now, at war, sending its supporters out to the television networks to spin the story back on the Times.

Well, well. Look who the cat dragged in - with a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates no less...and look at those fingernail marks! The media is a cruel mistress McCain, but lucky for you your frumpy and erstwhile-disposable old flame is more than happy to have you back. They'll just cover up those dark marks with makeup.

Willing to take him back? Just keep this number handy. 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)

The thing about irony...It is so ironic.

Agreed.

Assuming nothing else is forthcoming, the Times only made fools of themselves while enhancing J-Mac’s stature in the conservative community.

The lib media know that all they have to do to win is let McCain BE McCain--his self-righteousness will be his undoing.

Which is exactly why every liberal paper in the country endorsed him -- he was the easiest of the viable Republican candidates to tear apart.

while enhancing J-Mac’s stature in the conservative community

Ya know, if ya repeat that a couple thousand times, some might actually start believing it.

“McCain was chosen by the media, and the boys in the smokey back room——not us. He’s a loser.”

Someone in the GOP must have voted for him somewhere along the line?

And all they have to do is visit FR for their material. Yay.

A vote against John McCain is a vote against our troops.
A vote against John McCain is a vote against the GOP.
A vote against John McCain is a vote for surrender.
A vote against John McCain is a vote for defeat.
A vote against John McCain is a vote for al Qaeda.
A vote against John McCain is a vote for Hillary Obama.
A vote against John McCain is a vote for Iranian nukes.
A vote against John McCain is a vote for the destruction of Israel.
A vote against John McCAin is a vote for the rebirth of the Soviet Empire.
A vote against John McCain is a vote for the destruction of America.

It was a great day for McCain.
The NY Slimes spread the rumor that the old man is irresistable to women, and at the same time helped unite the GOP behind him. A few more days like this, and McCain will be whistling “Hail to the Chief”.

Stop acting so irrational .
By the time Osama and his radical wife get done making the US a socialist hell hole then you will be a Conservative without a country !

au contraire, “my friend”... this will peel off social conservatives from McShamnesty in the Bible Belt quicker than paint thinner applied to a wall of gang grafitti....it will only get worse.

This wasn’t a “bad day”.

What would be a “bad day” would be the media going after why he divorced his first wife and one month after the divorce was settled he married the super wealthy beer heiress. Now that’s a tad tacky - leaving a crippled wife from an accident ... and marrying to fast.

No one wants to talk about that.
MCain was set up by LIBERALS and the GOP fell for it and still falling for it.

Obviously, some in the “base” will never be placated, but the entirety of the talk-radio commentariat that has trashed McCain in the past was trashing the NYT today.

I realize that dosen’t mean conservatives are thrilled he is the nominee, however, by November I believe some perspective regarding what’s at stake in the Middle East and elsewhere will prevail.

[The NYT is doing what I (and I’m sure many) knew it would do.
It is playing McCain like a piano. ]

Of course it is, but the RINO establishment had to teach us a lesson by shoving their man down our throats. I don’t think “vote Republican, you have no where else to go” is gonna fly this time around.

what the heck are talking about ?
He won in a very divided field because he had name recognition and the retires / the military voted for him.
The Repub primaries are set up with a large number of winner take all contests to prevent a divided convention.
There was no great conspiracy.
