Former congressman Asa Hutchinson, whose brother and former U.S. Sen. Tim Hutchinson is a top Huckabee supporter, said Thursday he's no longer backing Huckabee's presidential campaign and endorsed presumptive GOP nominee John McCain.
Hutchinson said he endorsed McCain because it's virtually impossible for Huckabee to gain the 1,191 delegates needed to clinch the Republican nomination. Huckabee's campaign had announced in November that the Hutchinson brothers were among high profile Arkansas Republicans backing the former governor's bid.
"I was delighted to support Gov. Huckabee whenever there was a possibility he could garner the delegates necessary to win," Hutchinson told The Associated Press Thursday morning. "It's not mathematically possible, so once that mathematical possibility expired I indicated to Sen. McCain I'd be willing to support him and do what I can to help bring our party together to win in November."
Overall, McCain has 957 delegates and Huckabee has 254.

BTW, does anyone remember that Huckabee criticized Bush' foreign policy as "bunker mentality" and Huckabee thinks it's our fault that terrorists hate us, and if we would only talk to Ahmadinejad, all problems would be solved -- all this straight out of the Dem playbook.

Well of course. Because Elmer Gantry is a Democrat, in the same manner that as McQueeg is a Democrat.
And, no, McQueeg no more deserves my support than the other two Democrat candidates.
Given that McCain needs only about 20% or so of the remaining delegates to get the nomination, and these are proportional races for the most part from here on out, it would take a total collapse of the McCain campaign to not get the nomination. I respect Huckabee continuing to fight (unlike all the other candidates that folded prematurely — and I’m especially talking about Thompson and Romney here).

According to this blog there are only 775 delegates left to win. In that case Huckabee still has an outside chance.

Which is why we must vote for all conservatives on Nov. ticket. We must reagin majority or at least prevent democrats from getting to 60.
As far as President. Since only Demcrats are running, we’ll have our work cut out for us.
I figured that this would bring out the nasty fringe.
McCain doesn’t have the delegates yet. Until then a brokered convention remains a possiblity and voters still have a choice. The bosses who think they run things and can call things over before they are over are only making voters mad.

Every time the Iraq card is played I feel compelled to repost some comments:
If the WOT/Iraq are important, then why are we podering closing Gitmo?
Why are we giving foreign terrorists access to constitutional protections?
Why are we leaving our borders open and providing excuses for the invaders?
Why are we banning “torture”
Why are we referring to our enemies ideology as “a religion of peace”
Why are we celebrating our enemies ideology in our govt. buildings?
Why are nation building?
I know that that last one is a sticking point, so I’ll tell you...the war in Iraq is OVER!
We’ve eliminated WMDs
We’ve eliminated Hussein
We’ve destroyed the Batth Party
We’ve annialated thousands of terrosists
It’s the Iraq’s turn now. If they fall back into terrorist activities, we return and bomb the bleep out of them again.
This whole thing about Mccain being a great CIC is bogus. He isn’t going to ratchet up the killing of terrorists, he isn’t going to scortch earth the middle east, he isn’t going to play tough with terrorist prisoners and he certainly isn;t going to close our borders.
Mccain will continue the policies of George Bush and while they may seem more “troop centric” than Obama or Clinton, they will not help us win this WOT.
Don’t get me wrong, neither will Obama or Clinton, but to say that by posturing about withdrawing our troops from Iraq is going to put this country in any more danger than itis right now with it’s open borders and terrorist coddling tendancies I think is a stretch.
GWB deserves credit for retailiating after 911 and foiling multiple plots since. The next President needs to do the same to ensure their own political future.
I would much rather have a Dem in office to beat and stonewall every single day, than a Dem in Republican clothing who will end up being rubber stamped.

It’s unlikely that any candidate can end the war in Iraq, no matter what they say.
Maybe you should consider history.

If you think McCain would do any of these things, you haven't looked at his record closely enough.

No positive ideas, no creative ideas, certainly no compromise......they appear to just want to “sit home”, not vote.... and blather on and on about how bad others are.
Even if we get to a brokered convention, what do you expect to happen? Do you think someone besides McCain will end up being the nominee? If so, how mad do you think the individuals will be who voted for McCain (which is a lot more people than voted for Huck)?
Considering the historical spinelessness of the Republicans in Congress, you seem to be taking a huge risk.

Actually only a liberal could consider Huckster or McQueeg to be anything other than covert Democrats.
