China & India weren’t booming then. Don’t get me wrong, oil will probably drop—but to a still pricy $50-60/barrel instead of say $15 like it did less than a decade ago. Now, if all 3 countries go into recession (US, China, India), it may but I don’t think India will and China probably won’t although I don’t expect 10% gdp growth to continue.

Oil is hardly used at all these days to generate electricity in the US. They are separate markets.

In some ways, that’s ok. A lot of research has been done during this time of high energy prices, and research doesn’t go away. It can be existentially frustrating for researchers to see most if not all of their research sit on a shelf somewhere, but that’s the nature of the beast. It’s there when and if it’s needed.
