So far, only Casey has responded. Not only does Casey support Obama since he wants to "continue to fight for the poorest of the poor around the world," BUT:
"...in September of 2007, [Casey] introduced The Jubilee Act for Responsible Leading and Expanded Debt Cancellation of 2007. This bill would expand bilateral and multilateral debt cancellation for an additional 25 nations and ensure the benefits from debt cancellation will not be squandered. In order to achieve sustainable advances out of poverty and reduce dependency on foreign aid, countries must break out of the vicious debt cycle that diverts their scarce fiscal resources away from valuable domestic programs."
Sigh. I really miss Santorum.
This cries out for the same kind of response given to the Amnesty bill.
Yeah. LBJ’s “Great Society” worked so well. More poverty now than when it started. How many billions down the drain?
Now Hussein wans to throw nearly a trillion down the drain. For what, to make them better off, or to make “friends” with them.
Wake up, if they are not friendly now, it’s unlikely that money will change them. Fear works best to keep yahoos in line. Spend the money on our military.
I think what is happening now is a reaction to the Cold War, both in the USA and Europe. We were told for so long that the (Communist) wolf was at the door and much stronger than us. I remember my father lamenting our “weak” military (vs. the USSR’s supposedly strong one) all through childhood. When the Eastern Bloc and USSR disintegrated without a shot being fired, it made decades of fear mongering look downright foolish—as did all the sacrifices we made during the Cold War (Korea, Vietnam, etc). My son snickered at me whenever I mentioned that “threat” that we thought the Commies posed.
The upshot is that the people crying wolf aren’t take seriously any more. This is true for a whole range of issues from illegal immigration to gay rights. Opponents can always say that the Sun still rises in the morning. And its true: today looks pretty much like the day before. Unfortunately, most Americans lack the foresight to see the impact of today’s actions 10, 20, or 30 years down the road. To make things worse, the PC educational system has demonized good judgement. If you exhibit judgement of any kind, you are racist, sexist, xenophobic, or any number of derogatory terms. As a result, we are now ignorant, blind, and intellectually & morally defenseless.
