Rasmussen: 2/24/08 Latest Poll Shows McCain Leading over Both Democrats
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 2/24/2008 | Rasmussen Reports

Sunday, February 24, 2008

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that John McCain continues to hold a very modest lead against both potential Democratic challengers. In a general election match-up, McCain now leads Barack Obama 46% to 44% and Hillary Clinton 48% to 44%. McCain has led both Democrats on each night of individual tracking since the controversial New York Times article on McCain was released earlier this week (see recent daily results and summary of recent state general election polls).

The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator shows Democrats with a 284 to 229 lead in the Electoral College. If “leaners” are not included, the Democrats lead 238 to 189. Since yesterday, North Carolina has shifted from Safe Republican to Likely Republican while Wisconsin has shifted from Likely Democrat to Leans Democrat. New polling has been released today for Wisconsin and New Mexico. The Balance of Power Calculator determines projections by aggregating a variety of information from many sources including polls, the Rasmussen Markets, analyst assessments and more (see summary of recent state general election polling).

Last year at this time Rudy was beating Hillary by a nose.

Long term polls are meaningless. Wait until the end of September.

Hey there is a perfect irony in lord McCain NOT following his own marching orders and having his best friends the liberals call him on it.

I have yet to be convinced that lord McCain will president any differently than he has legislated in the unholy bowels of the Senate. There is only one thing that will guide and direct how lord McCain leads, guard rails placed upon him in the Congress.... So I will be 'voting' for Constitutional Conservative thinking congressional leadership.

Actually I live in such a hopelessly blue state that my vote for President doesn’t really matter.

Do I wish the nominee were anyone but McCain? Absolutely.

Would I love the convention to pick another more viable and conservative candidate? Without a doubt.

Look at the current Free Republic poll. It shows 62.5% for McAain.

I made this post up from thin air and got the number right on the money.

I agree. They are designed to influence attitudes more than measure them.

McCain didn’t want to go there. He only ended up there because it was the family business and because of it he decided he was going to make his father pay just because. That’s just the guy’s personality (aka contrarian/ maverick just because) and is why the guy is still alive.

Most Bush haters, suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome, simply move the goalposts.

Can you name those who hate “him” believing we were suckered into Iraq under false pretenses?

Were you asleep when Bush PLAINLY stated that he will no longer be on DEFENSE when it comes to terror?

These posts coming from Bush haters here, claiming to be conservatives, but yet are willing to “sit it out” or even vote for Obama, a socialist, because they need to have a temper tantrum, really make me wonder about some of you.

You’re a 30 year republican yet think we were “suckered” into Iraq..........

And I’m the King of Sheeba.

It is interesting that West Virginia is now firmly Republican. I wonder if there is any hope once Byrd retires/expires.

Was Asheville always like this. I was out there fairly frequently when I was assigned to the 82d and it seemed to be a Jesse Helms kind of place. Perhaps I was wrong.

I haven’t been to Asheville in years, I live in Charlotte, but from what I understand the city is pretty much dominated by liberals nowadays.

bert: Of those conservatives who said they would never vote for McCain 63% knew in their hearts they would, come November.

alice: Stop speaking for what is "in my heart". Your smug, smarmy posts that continually tell us that we'll fall in line like good little sheeple come November are wrong.

The GOP lost something like 4-6% of the white vote in 2006 compared to 2004. I assume that number comes from the base that was given the choice of a RINO vs. a Dem to vote for. Does anyone really think that McCain inspires the conservative base, and that the 2008 results will be any better than 2006 because of him? The worst part about McCain running is the number of seats lost in Congress because he's on the ticket.

Besides, he'll 'reach across the aisle' to pass the Dem's legislation for them. There's nothing inspiring there. And with less Rs to oppose it and the RINOs following him over the cliff, it'll pass easily.

Here comes amnesty. Be prepared to press '2' for English soon.

Keep in mind, you will have leverage over McCain on issues affecting conservative principles and none over Obama or Clinton. I recognize that this won't matter to a person who has given up on the Reagan Revolution and keeping America conservative or holding the line on liberalism's encroachments.

LOL! I'm sure we'll have lots of influence over McCain. /s Just as we did when he was drafting McCain-Kennedy in secret. It was the OTHER congressmen that voted against amnesty and listened to their constituents. McCain never did.

And if order to prove I want to 'keep' American conservative, I have to vote for a liberal with an R next to his name?

This seems to be tracking with rising negatives for Obama.
Way to soon to be meaningful, but interesting.

This is temporary. McCain is headed for a humiliating defeat, especially against Obama.
