Bella was the best film of the year.
I made it through about 15 minutes Of “ No Country For Old Men” as soon as the dog showed up I was done. Too much blood and gore.
I tuned in off and on, though I haven’t seen a single movie this year. The set looked like a funeral parlor and the movie clips were so depressing I had nightmares. Kept me up for hours. I cannot recall feeling more negative about life.
Perhaps it’s all part of a plan to get us so depressed we’ll vote for air purveyor Obama.
It’s the same moronic stuff with great literature—— if it’s happy with a happy ending, it must be trash!
However, if everyone you care about is dead at the end....IT IS BRILLIANT! /sarc....
Yes, I am the Twinkie Eater of Books and Movies.

There’s nothing wrong with a noir movie as long as it’s good. As it happens, I haven’t seen any of these yet.
But I suspect that the Coen brothers movie is good, because all their other movies are good, and some of them are dark.
And I suspect that all the rest of these movies are left wing, politicized junk, with no redeeming features.
Ratatouille was great—and the story of Edith Piaf, La Vie en Rose, though truly sad in real life, was very true to her bio, had some great music, and the best actress’ performance was very dramatic, even if it was in a foreign language.
I remember when you’d occasionally have a leftist spout something political at the awards, and they’d be seen as a troublemaker. Now it’s become the status quo, giving the awards all the entertainment value of a Nuremburg rally.
I watch my Frank Capra collection over and over. Now there was a director that really loved America, Americans, and the American dream.
Remember how much fun we used to have when these shows would come on !! ?
....even tho our society has deteriorated so bad, that our entertainment is now all dark and demented.
Where have you gone, Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn ? Our nation turns its...
Only one I saw was “atonement”. Hated it.
I taught film at UCLA and had as my guest speakers over 50 major players from the film industry speak to my students.
I have attended the Oscars and worked for the Academy. I can see why the ratings are moving in a downward direction.
IMO it is due to the lack of taste now prevalent in the Academy. Someone posted saying the Michael Creighton was not worthy of being nominated for Best Picture and I totally agree. Just look at the music awards. Their selection is at the standard of what one would find at a local bar.
The issue of happy endings or make me feel good films is also not what is wrong. One part is the PC attitudes, another is that many of the members have grown up on MTV and simply have no bases for what is good story telling and what is not. Its all about being cool. Look at two of the leading contending films this year- There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men. Both had endings that left you wondering why did the films end when the story was incomplete. I know that many think it is being cool but remember the great films tell a story where as these two just stop leaving the viewer with a sense of so???.
American Oscars celebrating Europe,
Around about way of saying they hate America to. We have the power, the minute anyone of these pompus hoLlywood morons opens thier stupid mouth and you don;t like what you here, DON’T GO SEE THIER FILMS.This will leave a lot of pressure on the libs to have to make this up by seeing thier films 2, 3 or 4 times.
All you have to do is read some of the bad reviews of the novel, Atonement, to see what crap it is. Typical Oprah book club garbage.
I’m delighted to realize that not only have I not seen any of the 4 flicks mentioned, but I have no idea which pictures won Oscars or were even nominated for them.
In fact, I only know the Oscars were on recently because I saw it on the DirecTV Guide.
Wow Hollywood, you’re really making a splash these days..
I have not watched another oscar. American Beauty was the most disrespectful trash touted as art I ever saw. It literally made me sick at the whole concept.
The next year, same thing... I didn't watch, but was informed that "Oh Brother, where art thou?" took the honors? Movies that spit on everything I believe in.
To hades with the oscars. The oscars are not worth caps anymore.
I can proudly say that I had never heard of a single movie or actor/actress that won the Oscars.
I'm didn't neither.
