Well, I don’t see where he’ll get his backing, but there are a lot of folks I respect, who still think he’s a shoe in. If he is, then God help the Republic, for no one else will for four years.

This seems to be the year that everyone is going to pander to all the moderates or people in the middle. They don’t consider themselves liberal or conservative. They probably are busy with their lives right now and not really paying attention, but they will come summer. Depending on what happens between now and November will have a huge effect on what happens in November.
The Left is probably going to get the candidate that they wanted and the Right is not. I live in California and I think that if Obama wins and the Democrats increase their numbers in Congress to where there have the 60 votes then you are going to have the equivalent of the California Legislature one of the most marxist legislatures. The only thing in California that keeps them in check is the initiative process and some of their measures have been through initiative defeated such as term-limits. Gay marriage was passed in the legislature here and so far hasn’t become law because the people passed an initiative recognizing marriage between a man and a woman. One lawmaker wanted to outlaw spanking of children by making it criminal. Just imagine the US congress being like this and there is no initiative or nothing to keep them in check other than voting them out in 2,4, or 6 years. For those of you who think that the Democrats take over the presidency and congress and will fail miserably the first two or four years and the GOP will return to power, I think that they will implement the changes slowly and they’ll take credit for any upturn in the economy even if its in part to the things that republicans did before.
On a personal level, one good thing that may happen and I am hoping will happen to more people is this: My dad is a Democrat and has voted democrat for a long time. I do not consider him a liberal democrat but a moderate. He feels that Obama scares him enough to vote for McCain.
McCain is not perfect, but who is the conservative out there who could win on a third party ticket?

It continues to amaze me how any half serious person could claim McCain is tough on terrorism because he’ll keep troops in Iraq, while leaving our borders wide open and granting amnesty to 20 million illegals. (No, I don’t believe a word he says about securing the border FIRST. He’s in the Senate now, and will be for 9 more months before the vote. What’s he doing about securing the border NOW?)

I never cease to be amazed that the very man who has made a career of being a maverick (disloyal, undependable, self-serving) now expects the everyone on the right to rally to him.

I refuse to support in ANY way those who are working against principals I hold dear and that were held dear by the founders of a country the likes of which the world had never dared to dream of before they did!!!
I want my country back and until I spot a person, or organization they will bring that closer to reality, I'm simply uninspired, unimpressed and certainly not interested in elevating him/her/them to the position George Washington held!!!

I'm sure you'll be so pleased and inspired as many of us were here in CA after all the Schwartzenswindler rhetoric at the 2004 Republican CONvention, only to see him steering our ship of state into a generation of bondage and foolishness!!! The question we have to ask ourselves is who furthers our cause in the long run. I think the remaining Republicans in congress can more likely stop an Obama agenda over McCain’s. Many of McCain’s positions already have support on the Dem side so being a Republican, Republicans in congress will much more likely go along. And when things go wrong, and they are going to go wrong, Iran, Russia, etc. what label should it wear, Democrat or Republican?
As opposed to a Socialist McCain. You think McCain is going to stand up against all those fellow horse-traders he's spent so much time with over the last 5 decades or however the hell long he has been in the Senate?
There's a reason why people like McCain fight like hell to keep from going out there and making a living in the world he helped create.
This is worth repeating. Often--until McCain gives some straight talk to conservatives.
