Teen charged with intoxication manslaughter

ARLINGTON -- A woman died, and two children and an adult were injured in an alcohol-related accident about midnight Friday in south Arlington, authorities said.

Nogaelda Zavala, 38, was pronounced dead at the accident scene in the 600 block of Debbie Lane, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office. Two children in Zavala's car -- Angel Zavala, 3, and Anna Zavala, 14 -- were taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center with serious injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Police arrested Brandon Lee Burchfield, 17, and he was in the Arlington Jail on Saturday facing a charge of intoxication manslaughter and three charges of intoxication assault, the jail log showed. Bail had not been set.

A passenger in Burchfield's truck, Charles James Osborn, 19, was taken to Dallas Methodist Medical Center by helicopter ambulance and was listed in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Burchfield was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram westbound in the 800 block of Debbie Lane, and Nogaelda Zavala was approaching him in her 2003 Ford Taurus, according to police. Burchfield's truck crossed over the center dividing line and struck the Taurus head-on, police said.

Drunk driving is disgusting and those driving drunk should be prosecuted.

My Position from the start has been:
If we need people we can process in new citizens who have never committed any crime including entering illegally.

And who are drawn from every country in the world
From Iceland To South Africa, From Norway to South Korea
Every corner of the globe, not giving ANY preference to the few nations to our immediate south.

I also have no problem with prosecuting a drunk driver who kills people, even if the people are criminals like drug dealers or illegal aliens.

It is totally outrageous: the perp will be tried and likely convicted, and he will even be able to respond to the prosecutor in English. Outrageous. Shocking.

Ya know dane...I wasn’t so outraged about the fact that an illegal immigrant killed a good friend of mine’s wife.
I was OUTRAGED at the fact the local Mexican consular got him off and took him back to Mexico.

I would assume the answer “because it’s about holding those in charge of those very matters accountable” would be quick to come to mind.
