If one image can illustrate why Barack Obama is on the verge of winning the Dem presidential nomination, this one from last night's debate could be it.

Not only does it represent the epitome of good-natured cool, it comes in stark contrast to the patented glare that Hillary aims at those who draw her ire. We've often illustrated the death-ray genre here at NB; you'll find a representative image after the jump, taken from this summer's CNN/YouTube debate.

Cool hand versus ice queen ping to Today show list.
He is one cool customer. Hate to say it, but I look for Obama to wipe the floor with McCain in the fall debates.
I lost the use of my left arm just by looking at the picture. Being in the same room would mean certain death.
I’ve thought about that, and don’t feel Obama will be as successful with McCain as with Hillary. McCain is much more authentic than she is, has earned respect for his personal history, etc. McCain can afford to be a bit grouchy; people will cut him some slack. I don’t expect McCain to out-debate Obama on pure speaking points, but feel he can hold his own in other ways during the debates. Many people feared Gore would wipe the floor with W, and we know how that turned out.

It could be worse. A lot worse ;-)
If you were watching Hitler and Stalin debate, or Brezhnev and Mao, who would you root for? I felt the same way what little I watched last night.
You got me there.
Hmm. Pol Pot? ;-)
He was good on (re) education :)
She would have a hard time winning a city council seat in Poughkeepsie with that persona...

Like governsleastgovernsbest, I think McCain will do fine against Obama.
One thing to keep in mind: since both Donkees agree on the message, it’s all about the “tone” and delivery between them.
But between McCain and Obama there are real differences in substance.
Take Iraq, for example: both Clinton and Obama agree that we shouldn’t have gone in and they beat each other up over who reached that conclusion first.
But neither one of them have ever been called to account for the REALITIES of the WOT, the success of the surge (which McCain sponsored even when it was an unpopular idea), the drawbacks of a cut and run withdrawal, and so forth.
She was so obnoxious last night. The thought of her and Bill in the White House is unimaginable...
You have to wonder who writes this stuff for her.
In the first words out of her mouth she plays the victim card coupled with a snide remark. Gotta love it..
I’d be “cool” too if I had the entire media, Hollywood, and Academia at my back.
She'll probably have to go on medication once this is over. Plus, the clintons probably hate each other more than ever...
Been there, done that.
