Rove: Don't "Hussein" Obama
The Atlantic ^ | 2/27/08 | Marc Ambinder

No less an authority figure than Karl Rove has warned Republican operatives from demagoguing Barack Obama's middle name.

At a closed door meeting of GOP state executive directors in late January, Rove said the safest way to refer to Obama would be to use his honorific, "Sen. Obama."

"The context was, you're not going to stimatize this guy. You shouldn't underestimate him," one of the executive directors said. Rove said that the use of "Barack Hussein Obama" would perpetuate the notion that Republicans were bigoted and would hurt the party.

Rove also said that Republicans should refer to Hillary Clinton as "Sen. Clinton," rather than "Hillary."

Right wing figures are set to ignore Rove's advice. Rush Limbaugh used Obama's middle name more than a year ago, and Ann Coulter regularly uses the middle name, once calling him "President Hussein." So does Michael Savage, who once asked whether Obama was a "so-called friendly Muslim" or one more "radical."

I just think that it makes us look cheesy, just as the "Obama is a Muslim" makes us look like stereotypical backwoods paranoids.

Just because Obama's father had been a Muslim in his youth (and a heretic as an adult) does NOT make him a follower of the ROP. He is as Muslim as I am Catholic. In other words, not at all.

There are ALOT of issues to hit Obama on, including the racist CHURCH he belongs to. The "Barack is a Muslim" BS is a waste of time and energy.

Rove is good at what he does if you call dishonest good. He is crafty.

Call her Senator Clinton? Not Hillary? Not b****? Not Sow of Satan? Oh yeah. Terms of endearment. That’ll win elections. /s

Meanwhile. On the Dem side, B. HUSSEIN Obama says he’s embarrassed to find he’s a distant relative of Dick Cheney. And if a question from the audience includes a profane word against the President, don’t expect Hillary to object.

These times are WAY too dangerous for us to gloss over the fact that another muzzie symp has designs on the WH.

Without the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Kerry would probably be President today.

It doesn’t make anyone look cheesy. It’s funny, that’s all. We didn’t give him the name. Blame his parents. If he is left having to explain the Muslim history of his family then oh well. People are curious about it so this is his opportunity to explain. While he is at it, explain why he is ashamed of the name.

Gee, Karl...STFU...

When your presidential campaign advisory resume matches that of Mr. Rove, perhaps we will take your comments a bit more seriously than an asinine noob.

Attacking Obama’s name is infantile and just plain stupid. I can’t believe that any conservative does this seriously. I guess as a joke its ok, but c’mon, its pitiful to think its good policy. Its an embarassment to the serious conservative movement.

No one in the Bush administration thought of that. It was Jerome Corsi (not a Bush fan by any means) and John O’Neill - a democrat. Bush and McCain both denounced it.

I totally agree. When she called him “barack” last night it appeared peevish. Mr. Obama is bad enough...Senator Barrack Hussein Obama is totally accurate but to just say Hussein.......hmmmmmmmmmm course the Democrats did call George W. Bush “W” but the Republicans turned it around on them........ha ha ha........that was something...........

I do agree that continuing to make a huge deal about Obama’s middle name makes us come across as juvenile.

Rove is brilliant. It gets the story out about his Muslim past, yet Republicans can run on higher ground.

No one is saying he IS a muslim. Just a marxist who is supported by terrorists and radical muslims.

“His wife is not proud of the country, his church gives awards to Louis Farakhan, his mother married two muslims...”

We can no longer mention his wife, his church, or his mother.

Did you get the memo? sarc
