Highly Poisonous Ricin Possibly Found At Las Vegas Motel
FoxNews ^ | Friday, February 29, 2008 | Associated Press

Posted on 02/29/2008 6:08:32 AM PST by penelopesire

LAS VEGAS — Preliminary tests indicate that a package found at a motel contained the toxin ricin, and seven people have been taken to hospitals, authorities said.

Police were called to the Extended Stay America Motel on Thursday and retrieved a package from the motel manager that was determined to be a chemical or controlled substance, Officer Ramone Denby said.

Two preliminary tests indicate it contained ricin, he said. Results from further tests by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a second local lab are expected Friday, police said.

Local coverage and video from FOX 5 Las Vegas

I didn’t see it here, but I did hear them talking about it somewhat on Fox. Lots of really strange activity the past few weeks.

A Search would answer that question.

I heard it this morning at about 04:30 Colorado time. I find this amazing. Why is the news covering this at all? I mean, mall explosions which might be terrorism automatically have threads that get attacked when even the term “terrorism” is used.

Then something like this... and the media is already saying “no connection to terrorism” before they even have all the information... wow. Why do we even CARE any more?

(Sorry... something clicked my sarcastic button this morning and I couldn’t help it)

"Ricin has no medical uses other than cancer research," police Captain Joseph Lombardo said at a news conference Thursday night. "An individual citizen other than being involved in cancer research or cancer prevention would not have any legal means or proper means of having that."

Investigators did not immediately believe the substance was intended for an attack. "This is not a terror incident at this point," Lombardo said.

So apparently it's the police opinion that someone was working on a cure for cancer in their NV hotel room?

Yeah, let’s rule out the possibility of terrorism, especially Islamic terrorism,

before any investigation has been done.

Let me guess, some worker admitted to accidentally spilling the ricin in the rooms, that’s how we know it wasn’t terrorism.

Funny, usually the white powder found at the Extended Stay America locations in Las Vegas is crack, heroine or cocaine since drug dealers love places this since they rent by the week.

Two of the 9/11 hijackers did come to Vegas to get their freak on before going to meet Allah (maybe they just didn’t want to meet the 72 virgins while being virgins themselves). It’s not out of the question that Vegas would be a place to be targetted considering that there are about 300-500,000 tourists in a 4 mile square area every week of the year here.

“So apparently it’s the police opinion that someone was working on a cure for cancer in their NV hotel room?”

LOL..Can you believe it?

You will love this line from another news source:

“This is not a terror incident at this point,” Lombardo said.

“We don’t know that there was any criminal intent on anybody’s part,” Las Vegas police Sgt. John Loretto said. “It could have been somebody that was reading a book who wanted to try to make something.”

This is why the people at Homeland Security have no credibility with me whatsoever. They always rule terrorism out right off the bat. Then they tell me there have been no other terrorist attacks here since 9/11, not to mention they have shown absolutely no concern for our open borders.

No, I’m not assuming this is terrorism, but ... wouldn’t “leap day” be the kind of day a terrorist would choose?

nothing to see here just move along./s/

The most famous, and successful use of bioterrorism on U.S. soil occurred during September 1984, when followers of the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh contaminated salad bars in The Dalles, Oregon with Salmonella Typhimurium. Over 750 cases of salmonellosis were determined to be caused by the salad bar contamination. It was later discovered that the Rajneeshpuram cult wanted to influence the local county commissioners election, so as to form their own township. The September bioterrorism act was a trial run for the planned November election attack, which was later canceled, as the plan seemed to be ineffective. The cult members obtained the Salmonella strain through the mail from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC).

The Japanese doomsday cult, AumShinrikyo, while seeking to establish a theocratic state in Japan, released sarin gas in Tokyo subway stations in 1995. They were later discovered to have developed and attempted to use other chemical agents (VX gas and hydrogen cyanide) and biological agents (B. anthracis, Coxiella burnetii, Ebola virus, and botulinum toxin) on at least ten other occasions. Their multiple attacks using sarin gas killed at least 20 people and injured more than 1,000 others.

I wouldn't last long as a reporter, but it'd be fun while it lasted...my response to him would have been...shyahhh...and monkeys might fly out my butt!

So why aren't we hearing anything about who rented the room...would it be because they were of a particular ethnic appearance?
