A protest against the border wall begins at 8:45 a.m. today at San Agustin Plaza.Protesters will then hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. in the City Hall rotunda.
The City of Laredo, through the City Council, was one of the first cities to pass a resolution opposing the border fence in September 2006.
The council also sent a letter to President Bush asking for fair immigration polices and saying realistic homeland security measures are the only solutions to the problem of illegal immigration.
When approached by a grassroots group of citizens to maintain the pressure against the building of the wall, Mayor Salinas immediately responded.
The group is hoping that with all the national attention being paid to South Texas during this political time, it will be able to send its message beyond the surrounding news outlets.
"It is definitely working," said Fabiola Flores, one of the members of the grassroots coalition. "Our fliers got to the media, and the media has been asking our questions to the candidates."
Marchers are asked to meet at San Agustin Plaza.
The first to arrive will get mariachis before they take off on their protest march down the streets of Laredo to the federal courthouse building.
A rally is planned at El Portal area, 1400 Water St., near International Bridge I.
There people can listen to local leaders as they explain why it is important to show Laredo's solidarity with the other border communities in sending the "no border wall" message to the rest of the world.
A good time for ICE to show up.
Let’s give Texas back, then.
A target-rich environment. If Chertoff, ICE and the other chair moisteners in Washington, who masquerade as leaders, were worth all the loot they extort from us, they’d be down there waiting.
‘Sí, se puede’ (get deported).
Just say NO to Illegal Alien Amnesty!!

But it should be a wall.
Where’s an A-10 when you need it?
Los dos Laredos ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
Why are these people marching/protesting?
Cheroff has guaranteed there will be NO Wall/Fence/Virtual Fence until 2009/2010
Morons cant even tell the difference between a fence and a wall and we are supposed to take them seriously? The sad thing is I come across some empty headed fools out there that do think it’s a wall and don't know the difference between an illegal and an immigrant.
The fence can be right by the river and the wall a bit further back. That way the wall can provide a platform for equipment.
“Wheres an A-10 when you need it?”
and busy AK-47s
It is sad that we have no representation from our own government concerning illegal fence jumpers. Nobody wants to hear it so we got McCain, Obama and Hillary to talk about restoring our image abroad and marginalizing Christian conservatives. The end is near...welcome to Aztlan.
Fence Protest Ping!
Let’s try that again with the ping list added, shall we?
Most of these types have poor grammar.
When they read
No border wall march is today
They will probably think that there is no border wall march today
LOL, Syncro! I thought the same thing!
OK, folks! Border Wall March Canceled. Move along. Nothing to see here. Head along home - (to Mexico!)
“A mind is a terrible thing to lose.”
Aye, that it is.
