I saw that while googling. No one considers Lugar or Hagel Republicans anyway. The other thing that is popping up is a Obama/Mayor-who-shall-not-be-named ticket. (Hint: Name startes with a “B.”

Lugar’s appointment might assure something else... if the GOP incumbent Governor loses reelection (which is a strong possibility), the new Dem Governor appoints another rodent to the Senate vacancy (meaning both IN Senate seats would be rodent), probably Baron Hill. We could be down to as low as 41 seats if the elections are a disaster for us (the fewest number of GOP Senators since the 1978 election).

If Obama manages to get himself elected, his cabinet will consist entirely of Democrats - specifically the ones instrumental in winning over superdelegates to his side.
Just because Hagel and Lugar suck up to the Democrats doesn't mean they have any future.
Look at Jim Jeffords - he sold his whole career for an advance on a two-book deal and now he exists only as a punchline.
