Conservative Melanie Morgan
Cut from KSFO Radio

* Vows to Continue Her Role as Conservative Activist *

(SAN FRANCISCO) – Renowned radio personality and national conservative leader, Melanie Morgan, delivered her final broadcast on talk radio powerhouse KSFO 560 AM today – Monday, March 3, 2008.

The owner of KSFO radio, Citadel Broadcasting, decided not to renew Morgan’s contract as part of the company’s announced across-the-board financial cost cutting.

Melanie Morgan has been a fixture on KSFO for the past 14 years, enjoying a run from 1994-2008 that far exceeded industry standards for longevity.

During that time, Morgan emerged as one of the nation’s most dynamic conservative activists, using the radio airwaves to motivate listeners who shared her passion to take action and fight for causes important to them.

Morgan’s on-air activism included an effort that removed the carcinogen MTBE from gasoline in California, launching of the historic Recall Gray Davis campaign that led to the election of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Governor of California, and co-founding the nation’s largest pro-troop organization, Move America Forward (website: www.MoveAmericaForward.org).

“It has truly been an honor for me to work at KSFO for the past 14 years. What I loved most about my time at KSFO was that it allowed me to connect with listeners and take action to make real changes in the world,” said Melanie Morgan.

“We never had a one-way dialogue with our listeners, and we never believed that we had to resolve ourselves to accept the status quo. We got out of our chairs, left our homes and offices, and circulated petitions, rallied for our troops and met with government leaders.

“We did all this to make sure that we left an even better world for our children than the one we had inherited from generations before us,” Morgan said.

As part of her ongoing conservative activism, Morgan has traveled to the Middle East twice to interview U.S. Troops stationed in Iraq and Kuwait. Her broadcast efforts from Iraq resulted in her winning the Associated Press’s Mark Twain Journalism Award, and The Peninsula Press Club’s award for Best Interview or Talk Show.

“Meeting our troops who are on the frontlines of the war against terrorism stands as the most powerful experience in my broadcast career,” said Morgan.

Morgan’s career with ABC began in 1981 when she was a television reporter for KGO TV. In 1984, she became an on-air personality for KGO radio where she worked for six years before switching over to ABC-San Francisco sister-station, KSFO 560 AM, co-hosting the Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan show. In 2006, Citadel Broadcasting acquired the ABC Radio group. She has reported on the scene from the Marine barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon; the Mexico City earthquake; and the Tiananmen Square massacre in China.

Melanie Morgan says her focus in the days ahead remains unchanged: She will remain a conservative activist leader.

“My commitment and dedication to serve as a leader in the movement to support our military men and women continues to grow, and I am very proud to serve as Chairman of the pro-troop non-profit group, Move America Forward,” Morgan said.

Melanie Morgan is not compensated for her work with Move America Forward, a fact since the group was first launched in 2004.

Morgan will also continue her weekly column for the news website WorldNetDaily.com and will continue to serve as a television analyst on news programs on cable and broadcast television stations and networks.

“My passion and commitment to the troops who are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world are foremost in my heart. While I will miss my good friends Lee Rodgers and Officer Vic, and our great producer Sheri Yee, I am excited to stay close to the conservative grassroots. And I’ll always lead with my chin out,” Morgan concluded.

My post goes back to my first one where I put on my tinfoil hat and suggested that this is part of a long-term strategy to dismantle conservative talk radio. I realize that the specific dismissal of Morgan was a business decision because her contract was up and the others (Lee Rodgers and Tom Benner) were not. Rodgers went on the air this morning to explain that KSFO was making money, but that dismissals were happening at all stations to cover losses elsewhere in the network.

However, my larger point is still that the ABCRadio network sale would lead to the dismantling of conservative talk radio. It seems that ABCRadio was the birthing ground of conservative talk radio, given that Limbaugh started out at WABC, and Hannity and Levin are located there, too. Breaking up the ABCRadio network is a clever way to hasten the demise of conservative talk radio, if it's not possible to do it via the Fairness Doctrine.

Consider this plan:

1. Destroy the affiliate network. (Done)
2. Eliminate local talk radio. (In Progress) This begins the process of de-linking the listener to his/her local station and local issues.
3. Replace local talk radio with nationally syndicated talk radio, but at non-live times. (Also in progress). If only the local origin of a nationally syndicated show is getting the live feed, then the people in other locations, either when driving or elsewhere, will not be able to participate because the shows will have ended by the time they get to listen. This results in people becoming less interested in conservative talk radio as a whole.

Here in the SF Bay Area, only Michael Savage is live. Hannity goes on at least 3 hours after his show ends. Levin is the same, also true with Laura Ingraham, Dennis Miller, Bill O'Reilly, practically all of them. Only internet listeners get to call in live.

Nope you got your facts wrong. Her husband works solely for KGO, Melanie works for KSFO. There’s an entirely different Program Director for KSFO, his name is Ken Berry.

Who’s comparing her to Tammy Bruce? In my opinion she is not an intellectual and doesn’t play on the same field as even her partners on the Morning Show. She has a terrible command of the language and outright makes up words when she hasn’t a clue where she is going at times. And, regardless of whom it is, people who fill the space with aaaaaahs and ummmmmms are not tops as far as articulation is concerned. After moving here from the east coast 11 years ago I quickly tired of her. And, I’m not so sure that Lee is sorry to see her go either. She is famous for stepping on his lines and making dumb, dumb, dumb comments. There were days I was truly embarrassed for her.

Can’t argue with you on that front. I haven’t been following the sale of Disney to Citadel since, as I commented in a previous post, I stopped listening to KSFO in the morning when I tired of Melanie’s not-so-articulate act. After the Morning Show closes up shop there is no local talent on air until 6pm when Sussman comes on for 2 hours. And, since it’s mainly the local talent who would be concerned with the sale, I was hearing precious little about it. It certainly does sound like the Fairness Doctrine under the radar.

As for ABC’s leading the charge - while Rush is the BIG DOG, remember that it was the great Bob Grant who got this whole thing going. I had the pleasure of listening to him for the 11 years we lived in New York. He’s an amazing talent.

If so, this is a rather recent development. He received a huge award as Operations Director of the Year just last year.

LOL!!!!! Now you’re talking like a lib, throwing around the ad hominems.

For your information, I don’t find her particularly hot. I think that Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Monica Crowley and Michelle Malkin have it all over her with regard to looks and, particularly their ability to speak in an articulate manner. As well, they can put lipstick on properly and haven’t seen the need for cosmetic surgery.

If you don’t like someone you just don’t like them, whether they are down or up.

According to Lee Rodgers this morning, the financial situation at KSFO was fine. It was other Citadel stations elsewhere in the network that were losing money. Citadel was cutting jobs everywhere regardless of station profit to make up the losses; they were not targeting cuts to only stations with losses.

Sorry. I’m experiencing difficulty figuring out how to navigate here with regard to responses. Sometimes I move too quickly. What happened was that I went in on one of your notes and then continued reading. When I replied it sent it to you rather then the person whose note I was reading. I’ll figure it out eventually!!! LOL!!!! Thanks for being patient.

Actually, not. If you had read my previous posts you would have noticed that I do appreciate the likes of Ann Coulter, Monica Crowley, Laura Ingraham, et al. And, they are considerably more attractive, articulate and younger. If I were the jealous sort I would certainly have them higher up on my hit list than Melanie. She is just not my cup of tea. I do believe that in this country it is alowed. N’est ce pas?

Also, while I am a newbie, I hardly see how I can be considered a troll when I’m right out here in the open for you to take pot shots at.

Would that not prove my point then that perhaps Morgan was not a valued or necessity commodity? In a time of downturn, the fact that one entity holds its own does not mean that fat won’t be cut. When a business looks to save one has to realize that everything will be considered. That is apparently what happened here.

“Sorry. I’m experiencing difficulty figuring out how to navigate here with regard to responses”

Bullshit. If you notice “Babe’s” last 4 replies (75-78), they were all posted at exactly the same time and second. That means that she’s writing her replies in advance, separately from the thread, and then cutting & pasting them.

She’s a “Beacon Hill Babe” and relates to an area of San Francisco. She sounds like a jealous dyke who needs to diss hot babes to make herself feel good.

Not really because of the specifics. Morgan has been a TV reporter, radio host, and conservative activist. Tom Benner was a stand-up comedian before joining the KSFO Morning Show.

I'd think that Benner was the more expendable.
