An Andhra Pradesh doctor pursuing his post-graduation in internal medicine in Pennsylvania was found murdered over the week-end. Akkaldevi Srinivas is the fourth Indian student to meet a violent end in the US in the last three months.

The body of Srinivas (29), hailing from Korutla in Karimnagar District, was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds under mysterious circumstances on Saturday last.

An MBBS student of 1995 batch of Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, Srinivas had joined Scranton State University for an MD programme in 2005 after completing his MS. He went to the US in 2002.

The victim's father Anjaiah has left for the US to bring the body after the family received the shocking news on Sunday. The motive for the crime and the identity of the assailants was not immediately known.

A friend of Srinivas informed the family members that the doctor's body was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds on his neck.

His family members have appealed to the government to render assistance in bringing back the body of the deceased and also to get the incident investigated.

In December, two PhD students from Andhra Pradesh-- Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma of Kurnool district and Allam Kiran Kumar of Karimnagar district--were shot dead at Louisiana State University.

A research student from Jharkand--Abhijit Mahato--was also shot dead in his apartment in North Carolina last month.

Another Indian student killed in the US

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: An Indian student was found dead in Pennsylvania on Monday. Akkaldelvi Srinivas, a medical student, from Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh was found brutally murdered by unknown assailants on Saturday.

Twenty-nine-year-old Srinivas, who went to the US in 2002, was pursuing his second year MD in Internal Medicine.

According to his family in Hyderabad, they were informed on Sunday by Srinivas's friends after his body was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds on his neck.

His brother, A Ravinder says that they are still not sure what happened. He says that the family was informed that Srinivas was seriously ill and the next thing they knew, they were being told that Srinivas had expired.

This is the third such incident involving Indian students in the US in the past year. Previously, an engineering student and two doctoral students were also found murdered in North Carolina and Louisiana respectively.

In April 2007, 26-year-old Minal Panchal was killed in the Virginia Tech University. She was pursuing masters in Building Science.

Some 80,000 students come to the US each year for studies and the total Indian student population in the US is said to be over 250,000 at any given time.

Statistically, it’s probably still way safer than Hyderabad.

Usually, such tragedies happen because of the close proximity between the gang bangers/other assorted welfare types and the low-income neighborhoods where many foreign students reside.

But these are Immigrant Students, most likely they’d be living in student dominated areas, not the gangbangers.

Srinivas is/was a Brahmin.
Although passive in nature they are the upper class of East Indians.
There have always been extreme differences between this class of Indian than the lower classes. In many cases extremely so.
Brahmins adhereing to the Hundu faith are hated in the extreme by Muslims.
Although anything can happen in the USA, I’d start there.

I’d wager this was a robbery gone bad. As was the case in the earlier incidents as well.

Thief meets student. Thief surprised to find no money with student. Thief pi$$ed. Thief becomes murderer.

Was in Philadelphia? If so, it's not that mysterious.

To that, add the fact that most of these foreign students end up taking rooms for rent in such places, attracted by the low prices, while generally being clueless about their status as no-go areas.

Frankly, it looks as though you are starting with your conclusion and working backwards.

OK, I re-read the post. It says he was attending something called "Scranton State University". There is no such place.

There is a "University of Scranton" (which is a private Catholic University) and does not appear to have a medical program.

I think some editor in India has watched Heroes one too many times.

It is odd that there is nothing (I can find) in the US media about this.

No not really, The other two responses are also quite valid.
When I lived in NYC, Indians were always getting robbed for one thing or another. 98 percent of the time they were robbed by their own people.

Have you ever been to west Philly ? The gang bangers, the druggies and the students all live within blocks of each other.

West Philly all by itself should be a no-go area. Unfortunately that’s where the University is.

A real news story would be if a WASP grad student were murdered.

Yes, I checked it too, and couldn't find any such university.

Yet another Indian student has been found dead in the US. Preliminary news reports suggested a medical student, Akkaldelvi Srinivas hailing from Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh was found brutally murdered by unknown assailants in Pennsylvania over the weekend.

Twenty-nine-year-old Srinivas, who was pursuing his second year MD in Internal Medicine from Mercy Hospital, in Scrantontown, Pennsylvania, was found murdered on Saturday (March 1).

According to Srinavas’s family in Hyderabad, they were informed on Sunday by Srinivas’s friends after his body was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds to his neck. The possibilty of a shootout has also not been ruled out yet.

Srinivas went to the US in 2002, after finishing his MBBS from Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad. He joined Scranton State University for an MD programme in 2005 after completing his MS in House Surgency.

Please verify the accuracy of information in articles before posting them on the internet. Sensationalism should never take precedence over responsible reporting.
There is no university called “scranton state university”. Minal Panchal was not specifically targeted; she was rather unfortunately killed along with 32 other students by that mad gunman.
That said, I think American mainstream media does not give a **** about foreign students who get killed in the US. For example, there was almost no news on CNN/Fox about the Indian grad students who were murdered in Louisiana and North Carolina. This is a situation that has to be remedied.

Mercy Hospital in Scranton is a teaching hospital.

I never considered the city to be a high crime place although that may be changing.
