Clinton wins could trump Obama delegate edge
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 3/4/8 | Carolyn Lochhead

Posted on 03/04/2008 8:01:39 AM PST by SmithL

On the eve of the Democrats' second Super Tuesday, polling is so close in both Texas and Ohio that the Clinton and Obama campaigns are preparing their own spin on what will matter when the nation wakes up Wednesday morning: Will it be math or momentum?

On the math side, it is a certainty that Sen. Barack Obama's lead in pledged delegates, at least 151, according to the Associated Press, after 11 straight victories last month, most of them by wide margins, is so wide that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton cannot catch up with anything less than blowout victories in the 60-40 percent range in both states.

On the momentum side, however, if Clinton wins both states, even narrowly, she could blunt Obama's momentum and generate some of her own. Headlines will declare a Clinton victory in two giant states, lifting some of the pressure on her from party leaders to exit the race.

Obama's best chance for a knockout blow is Texas, where polls have given him a slight edge.

"Obama, to stop her, really has to win one of the two big states. Then the delegate math does take over," said Tad Devine, a top strategist for the Al Gore and John Kerry presidential campaigns.

But if Clinton wins both, she is likely to stay in the race.

"Even if the math works in Obama's favor, if he loses two big states, I don't think that's how you win the nomination," Devine said. "You don't win the nomination by losing. You have to win the nomination by winning, or at least splitting ... I think it's going to be incumbent on Obama to win one of those big states if he wants the race to end tomorrow."

Remember all things Clintonista Folks !

I'll rule this country by executive order if Congress won't adopt my agenda. Bill Clinton, 7/4/98

You wait - the dems are gonna push the blacks to the back of the bus and then there will be a huge split!

Correct me if I am wrong, but neither of them can lock it up with 2025 without Superdelagates. I don’t think there are enough primary delegates left in total for either of them to reach the magic number. It would have to be decided at the convention. That will be interesting.

so strange to find myself rooting for Hillary.
The problem we are facing in the Republican party, with some people very mad about who our nominee is going to be, will, with any luck, be about 10 times worse, on the Dem side. The longer this goes on though, the better.

Watch what happens if Clinton sweeps the primaries today. The MSM will start crying “foul,” and claim that Republicans spoiled the results by voting for Clinton out of racist fears about having a black man as president.

I have considered the Limbaugh gambit, but have decided against it; I’d rather see the Democrats beat up one another without my help.

Hillary can beat Obama. What’s more frightening is that she can beat Mclame.

My guess is that IF she makes a “comeback” and eventually pulls enough delegates, by hook or by crook, to seize the nomination from Obama, she’ll be FORCED to take him on as VP whether she likes it or not. If she doesn’t, the Obama enthralled myriads will stay home in November out of sheer revenge...........

Hillry/Obama can beat a McLame/GAYCrist ticket because too many conservatives would stay home.

Thanks for the reminder! “Forehead” and others like him are one more reason we can’t let the Clintoons anywhere NEAR the White House.

Vote AGAINST Hillary in a primary if you have the chance, everyone! Put US out of their misery ASAP.

Yep........ I hope the voters in Texas remember all those murdered kids in the Waco Fiasco as well. Butch Reno , The Bitch and Bubbafuccos reign of domestic terror has no place in our republic. Then or now.

Koresh was a POS criminal that could have been swept up in the streets of Waco on a daily basis yet the Clintonistas decided to make it a media event to further the disarming of America. Thus electing to put those kids in a position of extreme danger that ultimately led to their deaths.

I want Hillary to lose today ! Screw Rush the Dittohead and his reindeer games etc . I will cross lines and vote Obama today to make sure, or at least try , that the Clintonista’s are never in the White House again.

Pray the Polls are WRONG this AM !

I voted Friday and it took two hours. The last voter had to wait three hours to vote if they stayed that long. There was about fifty percent Blacks and the remainder was split between Republicans and hillary supporters. I think Obama is going to win it with a decent margin.

Since I will never vote for a dem, I voted for Ron Paul. I do not agree with Paul on Terror but I think it’s time we returned back to the Constitution.

I doesn’t make that much difference if Huckabee or McCain had my vote. Huck is too far back and McCain will probably get the nomination.

Your: "I have considered the Limbaugh gambit, but have decided against it; I’d rather see the Democrats beat up one another without my help."

Concur. It goes against my nature to misrepresent myself in any voting booth.

Even more dangerous is trying to manipulate the Democrat primary. Defeating an enemy in detail is far better than propping him up. As far as I am concerned, the sooner a stake is driven through the heart of the Clintons' political life the better.

You don't kill the beast by nurturing it!!

**Clinton wins could trump Obama delegate edge**

Even though this is from the San Fran Chronicle, I agree with it.

I started saying last week that Hillary will be the nominee for the GOP to defeat.

You should check out the ugly hateful ignorant gutter level free-for-all war going on between Hillary and Obama camps over at DU.

I hope this thing keeps going.

Imagine- FORTY SOME DAYS until the next primary. They will be at each other’s throats in the hideous, vicious, hateful way that only Dems can do.
