Obama mentioned among documents recovered by Colombia from slain FARC leader Raúl Reyes

Article has the last "letter" from Reyes to the FARC. Below is the relevant section talking about Obama followed by my translation;

6. The gringos will ask for an appointment with the minister to solicit him to communicate to us his interest in discussing these topics. They say that the new president of their country will be Obama and that they are interested in your compatriots. Obama will not support "Plan Colombia" nor will he sign the TLC (Colombian Free Trade agreement). Here we responded that we are interested in relations with all governments in equality of conditions and that in the case of the US it is required a public pronouncement expressing their interest in talking with the FARC given their eternal war against us.

I think gringos here is just a general reference to Americans.

FARC, Ahmadinejad, Raul, Chavez, Al Quida...there are simply too many of our abject enemies hoping that Obama wins for the American people (hopefully) to consider or risk this out and out leftists and enemy sympathiser to be made our President.

I’m sure AQI supports him already. You know: “I’ll retreat from our fight against al Qaeda in Iraq, but if AQI is there after we retreat we’ll go back in. And then we’ll have to reatreat again because we shouldn’t be fighting in Iraq, but then we’ll go back in because AQ is there, etc etc etc ad infinitum...”

AQ is prob laughing their @$$es off, but since they know we’re not Spain they’ll keep it to themselves.

Is this real or is this a rumor.

...appears this pearlite Obama. And thus it says very textually: Obama will not oppose us.

For this thing to get any legs, the whole letter will have to be translated and put somewhere else so that people like drudge might actually link to it.

“I also don’t think that the American people will vote for anyone who didn’t, or doesn’t support the war in Iraq.”

You wrong. Half of America wants out.

This is what the Colombian government claims was in the computer, they’re going to submit this to other groups for verification.

This doesn’t mean Obama has done anything wrong, just that FARC expects to be able to open up talks with the US if he wins. It also means that they see him as not voting for Plan Colombia (which is what is decimating them) and the trade agreement.

Fair questions by the press are what his positions are on Plan Colombia and the free trade agreement with Colombia.

Sad isn’t it? I have no love for Mad John the Nominee, I do however, love my country, and Che and Co despise America, McCain only despises Conservatives, not the whole of the US.

That sorry state makes Mad John palatable..at least partially..I can stand his contempt, I cannot stand to see my country lose in Iraq and allow a Neo Commie to run America into a Socialist Hellhole...

No, you haven’t quite got the hand of Obama’s brilliant strategy yet.

It’s called the Obama Shuffle:
Step 1. Retreat from the battlefield where you are fighting your enemy.
Step 2. If they are still there after your retreat, re-enter the battlefield.
Step 3. Repeat Step 1.

I think the idea is that the enemy laughs so hard he dies.

I’ll try for a better translation later, I think my translation of section 6 is not too horrible (could be better). To get the context of the letter it is just a set of points Raul is sending to the rest of the FARC. They’re talking about gaining PR points by releasing hostages, the situation with hostage Ingrid Betancur (Raul says she is complaining she has a bad temper!) and other items.

I think the point of section 6 is that they seek an opening with the US. They want to open up talks with the US and gain more legitimacy in the world stage. They seem to think Obama has it in the can and that he is likely to engage them.

Well, I can’t check now, but I think FARC’s official website, at least recently, had a Berkeley address. Should tell you who these’gringos’ are.

Chavez already gave them $300 million.

Maybe that was his and Sean Penn's personal-use cocaine?
