Officials: Triple Murder Was Planned For Weeks (Texas teenagers kill family)
Tyler Morning Telegraph ^ | March 4, 2008 | Lauren Grover

EMORY - If 16-year-old Erin Caffey wanted to be free of her family, she seems to have received her wish.

In the small hours of Saturday morning, her boyfriend, Charlie James Wilkinson, 19, and his friend, Charles Allen Waid, 20, allegedly found Erin's parents sleeping in their bed and shot her mother, 38-year-old Penny Caffey to death and maimed her father, Terry Caffey, 41, who had forbidden Erin to date Wilkinson the night before, according to a sheriff's office report of interviews with the two young men released Monday.

"Wilkinson stated that Erin Caffey wanted her parents dead because they would not let her see Wilkinson and they even took away her cell phone," the report said.

Child abuse, eh?

The sad thing is that the 13 year old was the lucky one.

He did not know his parents were dead, he did not know that his own sister was plotting to kill him and he was killed with a single shot to the head, so he probably did not know what hit him.

The father watched his wife and sons die and his daughter betray him.

The mother apparently took several shots to kill and was awake to see her husband shot.

The 8 year old was hacked to death after watching his brother get killed.

As a father of daughters I can say that the position the father is in now is inconceivable.

He probably wants to be able to love his daughter, but that is no longer possible because she is pure evil. He is in a living hell.

"The grandmother has mixed emotions, probably," he said. "It's her grandchild."

Ya think?

They took her cell phone away. I’ll bet that pissed her off. If you do not have a phone or you get one taken away you become a leper in certain kid circles now. My 11 year old gets made fun of in her circle of “friends” because we do not allow her to have a cell phone ( and won’t until 16 even then highly restricted ) and limit her real phone time.

We have created a monster with this era of instant contact and allowing kids to believe their cell phones/ipods/xboxes are more important than relationships.

I had two youthful idiots walk pass me the other day in a store with ipods so loud I could hear them texting each other as they walked. Sheez!

This family was so utterly destroyed that even the dog was left grieving beside the smoldering remains of the home.

That father has so much grief to work through plus learning that his daughter is the cause of it all.

I guess it’s kind of silly, but I found myself being thankful that he still has that dog as a link to the good memories of his boys. It will love him and be loyal to him,and he can love it too, without all the pain that will come with still loving his daughter.

He is in my prayers.

I’d disown her at the very least.

The parents of Karla Hamolka in Canada who helped her boyfriend rape and murder her little sister have disowned her and when she got out of prison for killing all of the others too, they said she died the day her sister died.

Ah the Karla (Karla Faye Tucker/Karla Homolka) Defense. No sale.

Not trying to excuse ... merely trying to understand it. The circumstances are these:

1. She comes from a very religious family
2. Had been home-schooled until January
3. Began attending a public High School in January
4. Began dating Charlie Wilkinson in January
5. Was not allowed to date Charlie Wilkinson soon thereafter
6. Continued seeing Charlie Wilkinson
7. Had been plotting the killings "for weeks."

One can plausibly speculate that her family had closely supervised most or all of her activities prior to the time she entered public school. One can also speculate that her newfound freedom intoxicated her to the point of recklessness.

One can likewise speculate that her home-schooling and church experience left her completely unprepared for the sort of attention she, a "very petite," cute, blonde naif would experience in the more unsupervised environment of a public school.

Enter Mr. Wilkinson, who might well be a very exciting prospect to a young girl ... and who might well be a predatory sort in any case.

The idea that she would almost instantly begin plotting to kill her family over Charlie Wilkinson is difficult to credit. The idea that Charlie Wilkinson would begin and guide that process, is a lot easier to believe.

FWIW.... I wonder if Erin Caffey had ever been sexually abused by somebody, sometime in the past. Not her father, but somebody.... It would explain a lot.

I wish teenagers were capable of realizing just how much their hard-working parents love them, how much sacrifice it costs them to hold down responsible jobs and then to do the jobs at home in order to provide a comfortable shelter for their children.

My parents are gone, and I’m now old myself. I look back on them and realize now that they were the only people standing between me and an orphans’ home or worse. This early “dating” business is pure crapola. It generally leads to boredom and promiscuity and the parents having to raise grandchildren courtesy of some spoiled little boy who sweet talked their daughter. - I, frankly, wish my parents had flat disallowed me to date until I graduated from high school. I escaped the worst situations, but it’s a wonder. (I can’t imagine being cold enough to plot to have my parents killed.)

Public hanging is an excellent deterrent. It should be used more liberally.

******************
People don’t see death anymore, except fake death in TV, Movies and Video Games. So if kids actually saw rotting meat on bones, they might think twice before doing some of the stuff they do. Not to say it would be completely eradicated, but it sure would help.

I doubt it. Do a Google image search on "Lynching" and see how many grinning kids there you can spot, standing around the body. Lynching was exciting stuff. So were public executions, and you can see kids in the crowd for those, too. And since there were still plenty of murders in those days.... the deterrent effect may not have been all that great.

The only real deterrent is morality and respect for others -- which are in increasingly short supply, it would seem.

I shudder to think what it would be like to look back on having been responsible for something like this, after reaching an age and gaining the wisdom to know how much her parents loved her and tried to protect her.

$1,500 doesn't sound like the authorities are taking this seriously. Unless this is just poor journalism.

I think is is 1.5 million each.

Indeed.

If she has any compunction left, a year from now Charlie Wilkinson will be a terrible but fading memory.

And her life will be a long and tedious nightmare.
