“The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God governs the affairs of man [Romans 8:28]. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice [Matthew 10:29], is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it [Psalms 127:1]. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel [Genesis 11:1-9].”

—Benjamin Franklin, arguing the need for prayer at the Constitutional Convention

What does this have to do with Huckabee losing his bid for president?

Huckabee is upset because he said he would pull out when McCain got over 1191 in delegates, so he has to leave before he was able to get enough delegates to top Romney to gain second place status. That is why he is unhappy. He couldn’t beat out his nemesis, Romney, whom he has an irrational dislike of, before having to bow out. Too bad, so sad. Hah. Glad he couldn’t top Romney and have that satisfaction. Serves him right for his own hubris.

When one’s Party has been hijacked and one’s Country seems to have misplaced the moral compass which was its reason for creation and existence, one cannot raise the bar higher or more appropriately than to recall such Founding thoughts as that.

STELLAR quote, thanks for posting it.

Huckabee did well IMO, he and Ron Paul were the surprises of this campaign season, both took clear positions, ran unorthodox campaigns, and based their stands on personal convictions.

Huck and Paul may represent more rank and file Conservative Republican thought then McCain or Romney did, I wonder if TPTB were paying attention?

Franklin's proposal was not even voted on, let alone adopted. Considering his known Deist beliefs, the general consensus that he proposed this simply to defuse a particularly acrimonious debate makes sense.

The Convention chose to recognize no religious principles within the Constitution itself. The fact that Huckabee believes this should be changed renders him unworthy of support for the Presidency.
