British anthropologist J.D. Unwin studied 86 major civilizations over an expanse of 5000 years history. . .only those that embraced premarital abstinence and fidelity within monogamous marriage were able to establish an enduring, expansive culture. There has been no known moral system other than religion that asserts a moral justification for the postponing of sexual gratification.
Well my question revolved around morality without a god and you answered with an assertion from Thomas Jefferson and a study from the 1930’s from an British Imperialist who thought that 19th century morality was the best thing that ever happened and when it came to cultural stability, civilizations that have been around for only a few hundred years were more stable then one’s who had been around for a thousand simply because they were still around when he lived.
