NYP: OBAMA'S REAL MIDEAST PROBLEM--IT'S HIS POLICIES, NOT HIS HERITAGE, by Amir Taheri
New York Post ^ | March 5, 2008 | Amir Taheri

Posted on 03/05/2008 9:57:57 AM PST by OESY

...Most Americans judge a candidate based on his politics rather than his parents' religious background. In a country where everyone has a rich ethnic and religious background, Obama's family story wouldn't have sounded that exotic. Some Americans may have even regarded the Islamic part of Obama's family story as a plus for the candidate, if only because the biggest challenge to US global leadership todayscomes from forces speaking in Islam's name.

Obama's efforts to distance himself from Islam contrasts with his innovative approach to US relations with its Islamist challengers.

President Bush has chosen the "iron fist" - invading Afghanistan and Iraq, quarantining the Islamic Republic in Iran, keeping Syria's Baathist regime in check and helping a dozen Muslim states fight al Qaeda or its variants. McCain and Clinton offer variations on the same theme, albeit with twists and turns to satisfy their constituencies.

By contrast, Obama offers a policy of dialogue and accommodation. He has opposed listing Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization and proposed a grand bargain with Syria's rulers. He is even prepared to ignore two UN Security Council resolutions that require Iran to stop its uranium-enrichment program as a precondition for talks at the highest level. He has campaigned for a formal congressional move to prevent Bush from taking any military action against Tehran....

Last but not least, Obama has promised to withdraw from Iraq in his first year in office - meeting a key demand of all radical Islamist forces, Sunni and Shiite.

The message is clear: Obama wants a new relationship with radical forces in the Islamic world while distancing America from its traditional regional allies. In other words, he proposes to reverse policies that have taken shape over more than six decades under 12 successive American presidents....

The last thing we need is a president and first lady who yell “discrimination” every time they perceive a slight, real or imagined. That faux posture has already ruined discipline in our school systems, IMHO.

Absolutely right, his name is not the problem. I’d vote for Amir Taheri for President if he was eligible. Over McCain anyway.

I agree that his name is not a problem. To reverse the notion - we did not vote for Reagan because his name was “Ronald”.

However, his inability (other than gagging those talking with “racism” charges) to deal with such minor things as his middle name or pictures in muslim attire is extremely lame.

Obama’s idea of change is not superficial. He wants fundamental change that goes against all previous methods of dealing with people who have sworn to kill us. He wants to try to talk them out of it....right. And if he is viewed as Islamic by those in the Middle East he is trying to convince he will be viewed as the most blasphemous of Islamics, one who has rejected Islam for Christianity. He will not be treated kindly.

If Putin were in Obama’s position, he would do the same. Do we need a Putin?

"He will not be treated kindly."

Oh, I don't know. He might be treated as a Muslim who is lying in order to deceive the Infidel and will help the greater Islamic Caliphate whenever he can.

I would vote for a one eyed transvestite named Guadalajara Usuma Lenin if they were conservative and could win.

This isn't about names or race.

Excellent column - the point is that Obama is a far-left weasel and appeaser who thinks that grovelling before our worst enemies while they laugh about it is a way to achieve better security.

Obama being an apostate Muslim will not be a plus for him. UNLESS he were to come out and announce that he had been faking his 20-year Christian affirmation, put on Muslim dress, implement Muslim law in the USA, and invade Israel in order to turn it over to the Arabic countries ... unless he were to do ALL of this a death-sentence will probably be issued against Obama and he won’t be able to travel in the Middle East without risking being taken and beheaded.

Hmmmmm ....

Jon Christian Ryter's article of Jan 16, 2008, listing Obama's Muslim Connections.

Raila Odinga, Arab Kenyan and Muslim, is Barack Obama's Cousin.

Aaron Klein's article of Feb 24, 2008, documenting Obama's ties to domestic terrorist.

If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck and walks like a duck, can it be anything other than a Muslim.Obama

You might check out the Islamic concept of "takiya." It might not matter what Obama really is, but what the Islamists think he is. I have attached an article that, in part, discusses this practice.

Excellent article and exactly the point it is not how we (Americans) view Obama’s ethnicity that matters it is how our enemies view Obama’s policies. If Islam perceives weakness they will exploit it for they are willing to commit suicide to kill as many Americans as possible... Obama and his liberal kooks have not learned the lesson of 911

Yes, I am familiar with the principles of takiya. This assumes that, once he takes office (heaven forbid) he then professes his allegiance to the prophet and behaves as a “good muslim,” etc. Unless/until he does these things — and, having achieved the Presidency there would be no justification for NOT doing them (and certainly not in the Muslim mind) — he will be considered worse than an infidel ... he will be a Muslim who has converted to Christianity. That merits death in most Muslim nations.
