Sons of Iraq, Coalition Forces discover caches (Hawr Rajab)

FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq Sons of Iraq working with Coalition forces around Hawr Rajab and Zambraniyah discovered two caches March 4.
In Hawr Rajab, a SoI member informed Soldiers of Troop B, 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, about a cache of five, 5-gallon barrels of nitric acid.
A group of SoI in Zambraniyah brought a second cache to Soldiers of 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment. The cache consisted of three pressure plate improvised explosive devices, three 57 mm projectiles and three pressure plate initiators.
A third cache was discovered March 4 by an air weapons team supporting the Soldiers in Hawr Rajab.
The team was flying in support of a route reconnaissance mission near Busayefi when they noticed a depression in the ground.
Soldiers and SoI on the ground investigated.
They unearthed a barrel with a weapons stored inside.
The cache consisted of five rocket-propelled grenade warheads, one mortar tube, four AK47 magazines, one 60 mm mortar, three AK-47 butt stocks, two RPG launchers, two knives, two boxes of cell phones, 70 drums of 7.62 mm ammunition and various electronic components.
The discovery will help increase security in the area and increase residents confidence, said Maj. Mike Adams.
All contents of the caches were destroyed by an explosives ordnance disposal team in controlled detonations.

Locals, SoI turn in weapons caches (Arab Jabour)

FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq Local residents and Sons of Iraq turned over four weapons caches to Soldiers in separate operations in Arab Jabour March 4.
Local residents brought two caches to Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. The caches contained three 120 mm projectiles, four liters of homemade explosives, two pressure plates, one propane tank with wires, two 57 mm projectiles and another container filled with 20 pounds of unknown bulk explosives.
SoI members brought two caches to the Soldiers. Those caches consisted of eight liters of HME, two pressure plates, one propane tank with wires, two 57 mm projectiles, two 120 mm mortars and one 60 mm mortar.
All ordnance was destroyed in controlled detonations by explosive ordnance disposal teams.
