Report: Jerusalem shooter worked as driver at yeshiva

Sons of Iraq, Coalition Forces discover caches (Hawr Rajab)

FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Sons of Iraq working with Coalition forces around Hawr Rajab and Zambraniyah discovered two caches March 4.
In Hawr Rajab, a SoI member informed Soldiers of Troop B, 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, about a cache of five, 5-gallon barrels of nitric acid.
A group of SoI in Zambraniyah brought a second cache to Soldiers of 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment. The cache consisted of three pressure plate improvised explosive devices, three 57 mm projectiles and three pressure plate initiators.
A third cache was discovered March 4 by an air weapons team supporting the Soldiers in Hawr Rajab.
The team was flying in support of a route reconnaissance mission near Busayefi when they noticed a depression in the ground.
Soldiers and SoI on the ground investigated.
They unearthed a barrel with a weapons stored inside.
The cache consisted of five rocket-propelled grenade warheads, one mortar tube, four AK47 magazines, one 60 mm mortar, three AK-47 butt stocks, two RPG launchers, two knives, two boxes of cell phones, 70 drums of 7.62 mm ammunition and various electronic components.
The discovery will help increase security in the area and increase residents’ confidence, said Maj. Mike Adams.
All contents of the caches were destroyed by an explosives ordnance disposal team in controlled detonations.

Locals, SoI turn in weapons caches (Arab Jabour)

FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Local residents and Sons of Iraq turned over four weapons caches to Soldiers in separate operations in Arab Jabour March 4.
Local residents brought two caches to Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. The caches contained three 120 mm projectiles, four liters of homemade explosives, two pressure plates, one propane tank with wires, two 57 mm projectiles and another container filled with 20 pounds of unknown bulk explosives.
SoI members brought two caches to the Soldiers. Those caches consisted of eight liters of HME, two pressure plates, one propane tank with wires, two 57 mm projectiles, two 120 mm mortars and one 60 mm mortar.
All ordnance was destroyed in controlled detonations by explosive ordnance disposal teams.

Iraqi Security Forces recover large weapons cache in Jabella
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO
BALAD, Iraq – Jabellah Iraqi Police recovered a large weapons and munitions cache in Jabella, south of Iskandariyah, March 4.
An Iraqi police officer discovered the cache in a house in Jabella. Jabella IP secured the cache and contacted provincial officials to determine its disposition.
Provincial Iraqi Security Forces responded to provide inventory and take charge of the cache, pending its final disposition. Provincial officials ultimately decided to transfer the cache into Coalition forces control.
The operation was deemed a success in that local and provincial Iraqi Security Forces worked quickly and decisively to remove a significant cache from potential use by criminal and Special Groups in the area.
The cache consisted of 165 one-pound blocks of C-4 explosive, 19 rocket propelled grenades, five RPG launchers, one 60mm mortar tube, three rolls of detonation cord and two blasting caps for making improvised explosive devices, 25 107 mm high explosive rockets and 23 rocket fuses, 10 120 mm high explosive mortar rounds, 84 60 mm and 60 81 mm high explosive mortar rounds, along with six 60 mm mortar fuses.

U.S. Embassy Dhaka released the following Warden Message on March 5:
On March 5, 2008, the U.S. Secretary of State designated Harakat ul-Jihad-i-Islami/Bangladesh (HUJI-B) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Executive Order (E.O.) 13224.
The leader of HUJI-B signed the February 1998 fatwa sponsored by Usama bin Ladin that declared American civilians to be legitimate targets for attack. Since then, HUJI-B has been implicated in a number of terrorist attacks in Bangladesh and abroad.
This designation means that it is illegal for persons in the United states or subject to U.S. jurisdiction to provide material support to HUJI-B; requires U.S. financial instituations to freeze assets held by HUJI-B; freezes all property and interst in property of HUJI-B that are in the United States, come within the United States, or within the control of U.S. persons; and enables the United States to deny visas to representatives of HUJI-B.
The U.S. Embassy intends to closely monitor reactions in Bangladesh to this designation. We are in contact with local security authorities and will advise via the Warden Message system of any reactions.
Consequently, the Embassy advises U.S. citizens in Bangladesh to exercise caution at this time. “The letter is in essence advice to Democratic legislators. It’s innocuous,” said New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. “It’s the type of thing you hear on television all the time. ...The FBI questioned this individual yesterday and they pretty much discounted it.”
But though there wasn’t a link to the Times Square blast, the investigation into the letters is ongoing, Capitol Hill sources told FOX News.
Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill were startled to receive the notes in their office mail Thursday afternoon, just hours after the early morning New York bombing, and turned them over to the Capitol Police.
In a phone interview with WNYW-TV in New York, the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Pete King (R-NY), said more letters could be discovered Friday morning because of the sheer number that was sent.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officials were investigating whether the explosion was connected to strikingly similar bombings at two foreign consulates in New York.
And authorities were revisiting a recent incident last month involving four men who tried to flee a checkpoint at the border with Canada when Canadian officials attempted to question them, according to Kelly.
Two of the men got away, leaving behind a backpack that included photos of locations in New York City, including the recruitment center at Times Square, the commissioner said.
Investigators continued to scrutinize surveillance video and forensic evidence after an apparent bicycle-riding bomber struck the landmark station Thursday, scarring one of the world’s most recognizable locations.

Pentagon Bans Google Earth From Military Bases

WASHINGTON — Citing security risks, the Pentagon banned Google teams from making detailed street-level video maps of U.S. military bases after images of a Texas base ended up on the popular Internet site.
A message sent to all Defense Department bases and installations around the country late last week told officials not to allow the mapping Web site to take panoramic views inside the facilities.
Google said taking such pictures is against its policy and that the incident was a mistake.

Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, chief of the U.S. Northern Command, said Thursday that that the decision to issue a formal ban was made after at least one Google crew requested and then was permitted access to a base, identified in the message as Fort Sam Houston.
He said he was concerned that allowing the 360-degree, street-level view could provide sensitive information to potential adversaries and endanger base personnel.
