Terri Schiavo's Family Launches New Radio Program on Protecting the Disabled
Life News ^ | 3/6/08 | Steven Ertelt

Tampa, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The foundation that Terri Schiavo's family created after her death is continuing its efforts to help the elderly and disabled obtain appropriate medical care. The foundation is launching a new radio program on a Tampa station that will be simulcast on the Internet and later expanded to other Florida stations.

The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation will start the new America's Lifeline program this weekend life from the Tampa studios of Talk Radio 860 WGUL, a Christian station.

Prominent radio health care advocate Cary Hall will co-sponsor the program along with Terri's brother Bobby Schinder and her sister Suzanne Vitadamo, the foundation's directors.

Hall is also the host of a successful radio show called The Health Insurance Advocate which broadcasts from two Midwest stations.

"America's Lifeline is something we've wanted to do for some time," Vitadamo told LifeNews.com on Thursday.

"With Cary Hall's health care expertise my family's experience trying to save Terri, and now running her foundation which works to save those like Terri, we'll be able to educate Americans and raise awareness about the euthanasia movement like never before," she added.

Vitadamo said the program would focus on controversial cases of people who have been subjected to potential euthanasia or denial of lifesaving medical treatment, such as Lauren Richardson in Delaware.

It will help people learn about the best advanced directives for treatment, learn about the dangers of assisted suicide, focus on state and federal laws and explain how hospice care can be helpful.

The program will also delve into the controversial futile care theory whereby hospitals and doctors are more routinely giving up on providing care for patients they consider "too far gone."

The America's Lifeline debut is set for 3 PM EST on Saturday, March 15, 2008 and it will also be streamed worldwide via the Internet at http://860wgul.townhall.com.

The program is poised to expand into other Florida radio markets including Orlando and Miami.

Hey, that was kind of a fakeout by FV. I had to work on my internet connection.... the deathaversary trolls are disgusting! Oh,and it’s L. Ron Hubbard’s birthday today. Cruise and Travolta are in town laughing maniacally and couch jumping. The hotel is right by Greer’s courthouse. Remember their Terri? LISA MACPHERSON. Her dehydration photos are on line along with the details of her untimely death.

Sam Golubchuk gets some breathing room...

....................

The trial to decide whether a Winnipeg man should be taken off life support does not appear as though it will begin for at least another nine months.

Percy Golubchuk and Mariam Geller are fighting to ensure their 84-year-old father Samuel Golubchuk is not taken off life support by staff at the Grace General Hospital.

Samuel Golubchuk, an Orthodox Jew, has been on life support there since early November, but in December doctors advised the family that they wanted to take the man off the system because he showed minimal brain activity, could not communicate, and showed no signs of improvement.

The family fought in court to keep him alive, and last month Justice Perry Schulman granted a temporary injunction allowing Golubchuk to remain on life support until a trial could decide the issue for good. Lawyers for the Golubchuk family and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority were in court this afternoon attempting to hammer down a trial date, but the Golubchuk family lawyer said it's not likely to be for some time.

"We still haven't set a definitive date but it's looking like December," Neil Kravetsky said.

The court calendar is routinely backed up several months, and some trials are already being booked well into 2009.

Kravetsky said the family is happy knowing Golubchuk will remain on life support until the trial, no matter how far off it is.

"Right now he's ok because the order's in effect," he said. "Mr. Golubchuk is doing ok. He's holding on." A spokeswoman for the WRHA declined to comment.

Terri and the effect her legacy has on the Catholic Church is discussed by Fr. Kinast and others.

The most publicized and controversial instance of a person in this condition was the situation of Terri Schindler Schiavo a few years ago. Her husband insisted that she did not want to be kept alive artificially and requested that her feeding tube be removed. Her parents objected, arguing that she was still alive and the withdrawal of nutrition would in effect starve her to death.

The disagreement was finally settled by the courts in 2005, but the legal resolution did not answer the moral question of whether it is obligatory to provide nutrition and hydration to someone in this state.

Pope John Paul II addressed that question prior to the court ruling. In a 2004 speech to an international congress on this very topic, he declared that nutrition and hydration, even when administered artificially (for example, through a feeding tube), constitute ordinary care even for persons in a persistent vegetative state.................

From the frozen reaches of Minnesota, they ponder sunny Florida and its tropical produce, oranges, grapefruits, Charlie. Sounds like nobody is getting spammed by Charlie...

Still, Crist doesn't like to use e-mail. "I can't tell you the last time I got an e-mail from him," said George LeMieux, who until recently served as Crist's chief of staff and who ran his 2006 campaign. "I get a phone call. He just likes to talk to people, or hear their voice or capture things you can't capture in a sterile e-mail." But he said Crist has been the most transparent governor in Florida history. Indeed, Crist's first official act as governor was to create the Office of Open Government, which strives to ensure that state agencies comply quickly and fully to records requests.

The difference between Crist and his predecessor, Gov. Jeb Bush, is notable.

Bush's office often took months to fill requests, including one asking for e-mails related to the Terri Schiavo right-to-die case. That 2005 request cost more than $500 for a box of e-mails printed on paper. In contrast, Crist's office copies e-mails onto CDs and usually hands them out at no cost.

Florida put into law in 1995 that e-mails are public records. Courts had already ruled as much, but then-state Rep. Ron Klein passed a bill spelling out that communication to and from public officials and government employees are public records regardless of format......

In this reminder in a thread by Salvation, today is Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week for us Christians, Catholics. It marks the start of another week of horrible passion, that of just three years ago, of the suffering of Terri as she lay dying and as hope for her rescued dwindled. May we of all faiths remember Terri so that similar fates not descend upon others, and from the perspective of nearly two thousand years ago.

Today, this "Second Sunday of the Passion," is the memorial of Christ's "triumphant," but misunderstood, entry into Jerusalem, the day that begins Holy Week. This entry into Jerusalem is seen as the prophetic fulfillment of Zacharias 9:9-10 :.............

..................................

Barack Obama's minister for the past 20 years, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, has been in the news this past week for his hate-filled rhetoric.  His name, and his church, sounded familiar.  Now I know why.

Back in 2004, as right-to-die group Partnership for Caring transitioned into "Last Acts Partnership,"  Rev. Wright's name was listed (on their website) as a member of the Board of Directors for Last Acts Partnership.  Rev. Wright and a deacon from his church -- Rosalyn Priester -- participated in Richard Payne's "Last Miles" conference (funded by Soros's Project on Death, and by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation). Payne's institute at Duke focuses on educating African-Americans on end-of-life issues, and the Institute is not exactly pro-life.  When Terri died, the they were one of the first out of the box to host a conference to explain that her death was not euthanasia; it was merely an ugly family disagreement. The Institute perpetuates the myth that withholding/withdrawing is a good death.  Wright's church has participated heavily in the Duke projects, in Last Acts, and in the RWJF faith-based programs. (http://www.iceol.duke.edu/resources/lastmiles/papers/11.html )

This is the culture of death, folks. Ironic that Wright berates the US for not respecting life, when he himself is promoting this stuff.  And this has been Barack Obama's church home for two decades.

The unabashed assault on our senses continues, with propaganda of the left slithering over the most clear of logic and fact. This editor even thinks the two far left socialist-commie Presidential candidates are just dandy. Of course he would.

In time, the void left by the abandoned consensus was filled by an ever-narrowing and more zealous right, which attempted to impeach a popular president, even thrust its cultural views into the family tragedy of Terry Schiavo........

Showing an amazing grasp of the obvious, The Sunday Times brings this conclusion from England. Thread by rfp1234. Thanks, narses, for the ping.

Women may be at risk of mental health breakdowns if they have abortions, a medical royal college has warned. The Royal College of Psychiatrists says women should not be allowed to have an abortion until they are counselled on the possible risk to their mental health.

This overturns the consensus that has stood for decades that the risk to mental health of continuing with an unwanted pregnancy outweighs the risks of living with the possible regrets of having an abortion. .....

Mor on Hussain B.O. and cuddling with the Culture of Death and Okrah. Thread by wagglebee.

Eckhart Tolle, the New Age guru, who numbers amongst his disciples the wildly influential talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, who, in turn, is herself Barack Obama's most enthusiastic supporter, proclaims that history is at a moment of crisis. According to his theory, if humanity does not collectively achieve a state of "higher consciousness," then the race will soon violently destroy itself and the planet in a final conflagration of "egoic consciousness".

It is a little eerie to hear a man who falls so firmly on the left echoing the apocalyptic theories of the religious right, and proposing much the same solution to the problem. For what Tolle (with the accustomed linguistic obtuseness of modern self-appointed prophets) labels "egoic consciousness" is, to somewhat oversimplify, what the religious right has, since approximately the moment Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden, called "pride." And one thing on which the religious right and Eckhart Tolle agree, is that the flourishing of this egoic consciousness lies at the very heart of the malaise of the developed world, having lead to ever increasing social unrest, dissatisfaction with life, widespread violence, and a pervading selfishness, a devastating focus on the "I", the ego......

More than mustard comes from Dijon. Thread by wagglebee on something harder to digest.

Chantal Sebire knows she's forcing people to make an agonizing decision, but agony is something she knows far too much about. The 52- year-old Dijon schoolteacher suffers from a rare disease that has left her disfigured by facial tumors, which will also damage her brain over time and eventually kill her. Her demand that French political leaders loosen laws against euthanasia has been rebuffed, so Sebire now awaits a judge's decision on whether existing legislation allows doctors to assist her in ending her pain-racked life. "I no longer accept this enduring pain, and this protruding eye that nothing can be done about," Sebire told RTL radio, referring to ravages the tumors are causing her. "I want to go out celebrating, surrounded by my children, friends, and doctors before I'm put to sleep definitively at dawn."........

Sam Golubchuk update...

Thanks, Les, for the tip.

Last we heard from the news media, all was just dandy. The courts were not to hear the case until very late in the year and the medical authorities were obliged to care for poor Sam until then.

Not so fast when dealing with death enthusiasts. They have the blood lust and won't be satisfied with such a stalemate. They will fight viciously to complete their kill and we must always remind ourselves to be vigilant at all times. This dark force of euthanasia drives on relentlessly, never pausing in the quest.

Here is what is not in the news. They are seeking funds to help in the fight but it would not be proper for me to show this as a solicitation letter, instead as a news item.

Solicitation details edited.

....................................

My name is Miriam Geller, and I am the daughter of SAM GOLUBCHUK.

Please forward this email to as many people as possible after
reading.

You recently signed an online petition demanding that the Grace
Hospital of Winnipeg continue providing basic care for SAM, a
disabled World War II veteran who the hospital wanted to let die.
(you may not have signed the petition yet. It can be found here
<http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-sam-golubchuk/sign.html>
.

I wanted to thank you for your support, and to update you on the
situation.

As you may recall, last fall SAM, who has been living in a long-term
care facility, came down with pneumonia and had to be moved to
hospital where, thank God, the pneumonia was cured. Unfortunately,
due to his weakened condition, he was been unable to return to his
home. He is currently receiving basic care at the hospital which
includes being given food and water and assistance in breathing
through the use of a ventilator.

In November the hospital, without our permission, attempted to
withdraw this basic care, letting him die. We obtained an emergency
Court Order to stop them from doing this, which they tried - and
failed - to have reversed. We had hoped that this would be the end of
the battle, but now the government is forcing us to return to Court
again as it fights, at taxpayers' expense, to have the Order
overturned.

That's right - the government is still fighting for the right to kill
SAM! If it succeeds, it will have established the right to kill anyone
it deems unworthy of living.

Let me stress that SAM is not in a "vegetative" state, nor is he
suffering from a terminal illness of any kind. The government wants
to end his life because he's old, he's weak and he's disabled and it
doesn't want to spend money on his care - and it's using taxpayers'
money to fund its legal crusade!

SAM is a veteran of World War Two. He joined the army at the age of
16 and served in places like England, Holland and Belgium for six
years. He risked his life fighting murderers who started by killing
their disabled, then killed anyone they didn't like and didn't stop
killing till their government was crushed.

In short, SAM took a stand.

We too have decided to take a stand - but we aren't doing it just for
him. We're also doing it for ourselves, our children and everyone we
care about.

If we let the government kill SAM, it will be able to kill anyone it
thinks is past their "expiry date". Once they start who will stop
them?

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW MORE THAN EVER!

What we need MOST DESPERATELY RIGHT NOW is money to pay our legal
bills and the fees for the next legal battle to KEEP SAM ALIVE!
Unlike the government, we can't tax anyone to pay these bills.
Instead we're depending on your generosity......

As a reminder to why we are here, and despite this festive day of Saint Patrick, I remind, it will be three years ago tomorrow, when the State succeeded with Terri's husband to commence the thirteen days of agonizing dehydration to kill her, as she screamed in horror. I have yet to find an explanation to describe this process as any other than a State sanctioned execution of an innocent victim.

Sure, the media lied and the media tried, but never overcame that simple definition of the action.

The media has its might and influence and support from the left and we have truth, evidence, facts and faith in Our Lord on our side.

Our stomachs turn enough over the prospects and antics of one of the three Marx brothers offered up to us as selection for President. Harpie and Karl are beyond the pale, but at least Grouchy can make us laugh and breathe some comfort.

Not so fast! What could make this situation even more spasmodic for our tender stomachs? It would be the arrival of the New Crist Minstrels. We know this guy just too well. No question about the other Marx's. We know they would throw any like Terri to the slaughterhouse and maybe some friends, too. But at least Grouchy has shown support for our side. We know Sorry Charlie would join the quest of the other two and even offer to help.

Charlie Crist, current Governor of Florida, is mentioned as a possible Vice Presidential contender on a ticket with Arizona Senator John McCain. The 52-year-old white-haired Governor has the classic good looks of a political candidate. Crist came out for McCain in Florida at a crucial time, and Crist's support played a key role in McCain's win in Florida and could well prove instrumental helping McCain secure Florida's 27 electoral votes at the St. Paul, Minnesota convention in September.
