NEW ORLEANS — Sen. John McCain, in his post-victory debut before the conservative movement's top donors and leaders, will address the Council for National Policy's annual winter meeting here today.

*snip*

"Many conservative leaders did not support him, but he is a proud conservative Republican who thinks he can earn their support in the general election," Mr. [Charlie] Black added.

I Appreciate your input.
I to have seen various sites and quotes on McCain’s Pro Life stand that varies. He doesn’t hold 100% views as
I would wish but he is the closest as some of the others who were running including a few who claimed to be conservative but not totally on this issue.

I am against McCain’s border issues especially living here in San Diego and at ground zero on the illegals and what they are costing my city and their crime.
I was one of those who countered a march of over 50,000 Mexicans here with their Marxist signs a few yrs. ago.

But given a choice also on the subject of the the War, we cannot lose and here is were McCain is at the flip side of
the democrats pulling out and no reality of the dangers of the enemy. I don’t want my relatives who have fought and still are and others to fight and die in vain for a democrat pull out and another possible 9/11 on our soil.
and an enemy take over of the Middle East.

Below is from McCains site on the subject of Life and Abortion.

Overturning Roe v. Wade

John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench. Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states. The difficult issue of abortion should not be decided by judicial fiat.

However, the reversal of Roe v. Wade represents only one step in the long path toward ending abortion. Once the question is returned to the states, the fight for life will be one of courage and compassion - the courage of a pregnant mother to bring her child into the world and the compassion of civil society to meet her needs and those of her newborn baby. The pro-life movement has done tremendous work in building and reinforcing the infrastructure of civil society by strengthening faith-based, community, and neighborhood organizations that provide critical services to pregnant mothers in need. This work must continue and government must find new ways to empower and strengthen these armies of compassion. These important groups can help build the consensus necessary to end abortion at the state level. As John McCain has publicly noted, “At its core, abortion is a human tragedy. To effect meaningful change, we must engage the debate at a human level.”

Promoting Adoption

“Americans are part of something providential - a great experiment to prove to the world that democracy is not only the most effective form of government, but the only moral government. And through the years, generations of Americans have held fast to the belief that we were meant to transform history. What greater cause could we ever serve?”

-Senator John McCain

In 1993, John McCain and his wife, Cindy, adopted a little girl from Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Bangladesh. She has been a blessing to the McCain family and helped make adoption advocacy a personal issue for the Senator.

The McCain family experience is not unique; millions of families have had their lives transformed by the adoption of a child. As president, motivated by his personal experience, John McCain will seek ways to promote adoption as a first option for women struggling with a crisis pregnancy. In the past, he cosponsored legislation to prohibit discrimination against families with adopted children, to provide adoption education, and to permit tax deductions for qualified adoption expenses, as well as to remove barriers to interracial and inter-ethnic adoptions.

Protecting Marriage

As president, John McCain would nominate judges who understand that the role of the Court is not to subvert the rights of the people by legislating from the bench. Critical to Constitutional balance is ensuring that, where state and local governments do act to preserve the traditional family, the Courts must not overstep their authority and thwart the Constitutional right of the people to decide this question.

The family represents the foundation of Western Civilization and civil society and John McCain believes the institution of marriage is a union between one man and one woman. It is only this definition that sufficiently recognizes the vital and unique role played by mothers and fathers in the raising of children, and the role of the family in shaping, stabilizing, and strengthening communities and our nation.

This exchange takes place in the context of defending a guy who has voted for embrionic stem cell research.

Please copy and paste where I defended McCain. Oh, that's right, you can't. I never did such a thing.

So you lied again.

You two wouldn’t know a viper if it crawled up your skirts.

Maybe not, but I know when I see the posts of one on FR, viper.

"Think about who the enemy is hoping for and vote for the other guy."

No good.

The enemy has all of them.

All three top candidates are infiltrated by the enemy.

"How in the hell did we get into this mess!?!?"

We (the typical American TV-watcher) were informed that "only the top-tier candidates have a chance".

We (FReepers) buy into that load of crap just like a catfish taking the stinkbait.

We (Patriots) didn't scream bloody murder at the RNC for accepting John McCain as the apparent nominee.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

"So tell me who to vote for then!"

He can't.

If he did, he would have to name Ron Paul, the only actual conservative, and he won't do that.

I agree. My choice as you can see from my tag line from day one was Duncan Hunter.
Have always been a conservative.
I worked at Reagan’s headquarters here when he first ran for gov. Saw him many times in person also when he was Pres. and have have talked with Reagan.

A lot I don’t like about McCain but I can’t see Hitlery or Obama. Living in San Diego where the largest concentration of Navy and Marines are, from several I have
spoken to and comments from others, they will not reinlist under a democrat and you know inlisting will also go down.
The IslamOfascists will have decimated U.S. Military to walk over and take over.

Not mentioning the left wing judges the democrats will put in.

Not a major supporter of McCain but the alternative is not
an option

False assumption. Ovrtaxt is free to make his own choices, it's not for me tell him what to do.

Here at FR, self-styled patriots and McCainophobics have been screaming nothing else.

Ceaselessly.

You're a sorry lot.

Everything you hate and despise is coming at you via the Democratic Party nominnee.

Rather than leverage your value in the coming election, a fair number of you play with yourselves, as if that will have xome future positive outcome.
